Where were you when you heard the news?
They didn't even tell us at my school. Kids were talking about it on the school bus, and I didn't believe them. Then I saw it on TV.
Christa McAuliffe was my first inspiration to want to become a teacher. She will always be one of my greatest heroes.
It still kinda chokes me up to think about the whole thing. I remember the faces of the families and the kids watching it live... the astronauts smiling and waving as they walked to the ship... the endless replays of the SRBs climbing out of the explosion...
Ten years ago, big pieces were still washing up in the Florida surf. If I ever found a recognizable part of the Challenger, I think I'd bawl.
