Yesterday my family and I found that my dogs were carrying around a dead squirrel. This was probably around 1 or 2-ish that they got it. Anyways, around 7:00 that evening I went to see if the squirrel was still there- and it was. I went and looked at in and it had small white worm looking things wriggling around in it's mouth. There were also flies buzzing around the carcass.
Were those white bugs maggots? The reason I ask is that my brother and I are curious to see if our dogs caught and killed the squirrel or if they found it dead and just played with it. So, if they did catch it, could maggots appear in its mouth that quickly (from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm)? Or would they have to have found it already dead for maggots to be there?
Thanks to anyone who can help :)
