Anyone have experience with swollen lymph nodes?

For the past five weeks, I've had swollen lymph nodes under my left arm and swollen lymph nodes under the right for three weeks. I've had a mammogram which ruled out breast cancer and also a CAT scan which showed a little bit of swelling in the glands in my throat. I've also had two sets of bloodwork which show that I'm slightly anemic (but so is my grandmother, mom and little sister), and that one type of white blood cell count is just barely up.

I've done a lot of research on my own because the docs have just been sending me here and there for tests without too much explanation and have just been telling me that I could have lymphoma. I have looked online and have none of the symptoms, aside from the swollen underarm nodes. No one even told me this could be caused by infection, so until I found that out on my own I was scared stiff thinking I might have cancer. Now I think it may just be an infection and my body's fighting it off, though I don't feel sick at all.

I've seen an oncologist and he wants to do a biopsy. However, I'm part-time at work and have only part-time benefits, all of which have been used up for the year with all the testing I've gotten in the past month. There's no way in the world I can afford the thousands of dollars it costs to have a biopsy. (I was quoted anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000 from the hospital near me, depending upon how much tissue the surgeon decides to take for a sample.)

Has anyone experienced this type of swelling, or know someone who has? Should I wait and try to let to run its course, treating it as an infection, or should I beg, borrow, or steal the money needed for a biopsy to make sure it's not something more serious? Prudence would tell me to find the money for a down payment for the biopsy, but the payment plan presented to me was absolutely impossible on what I make and with my other obligations.
