I had this problem on my old PC about a year and a half ago, and I do not remember how I solved it.
We moved our wireless modem thing and now I am trying to get the other computer to connect with the wireless receiver box. It needs a USB driver installed to work. The driver is on the CD. I can open up the CD and look at the driver. However, I am completely unable to install it, and even when I try to install it manually, it does not show up on the list of items on the CD (although everything else does).
Things I have attempted to remedy this:
-Unhiding all file types
-Installing through Device Manager, Add New Hardware, Add/Remove Programs, and every wizard I can pull up
-Rebooting numerous times in various stages of the wireless box being plugged in and unplugged
-Re-checking the main receiver (the one hooked directly into the cable), although every other computer in the house with wireless boxes/cards are working
-Copying the entire contents of the CD onto the hard drive and attempting installation from there
-Uninstalling other USB drivers in case they are outdated, which they are not
-Going step-by-step through every Windows troubleshooter on the computer that may remotely pertain to the problem
-Throwing various items at the computer (not really, but I am very close to it)
One way or the other, though the driver is there...it absolutely refuses to show up in any install wizards or other places where it could be installed correctly. I had this problem putting the same device on my old PC, and somehow got around it, but hell if I remember now. What am I doing wrong?
