Have you ever been accused of doing something bad and everyone believes you did it and you have no effing clue why everyone thinks it's true?
Were you able to get people to believe you? And if so, how did you manage it?
I worked at a grocery store third shift when I was newly married and spoke once or twice to one of the stock guys when everyone was outside on a smoke break. Nothing deep. He'd done time for dealing and I was curious about it since my brothers were, at the moment, the stupidest dealers alive. I went away for vacation for a week and he wasn't there. Heard from the rumour mill that his wife saw us talking and decided we were having an affair and made him quit. And it turned out that the entire store thought we were too. I'd never seen this guy out of work and never spoke to him beyond 10 sentences. I was never able to convince anyone differently though.
This just came to mind because a friend is dealing with the same sort of drama and she doesn't know how to make it go away. Laughing it off isn't working.
