What is your opinion of teaching the bible ("as a story") in a public school English class? Mind you, this story starts with how "God created the Earth in seven days."

This question is not intended to start LJ wars. I was just curious about whether or not teaching the bible school should be done in your opinions (you guys all seem pretty smart).

I think it kind of breaks the point of "separation of church and state" when they make us read the Bible. But it's not like they will be saying "this is the only way to think," or anything. It's apparently just so that we can know the story and then examine other literature with references to the stories. But still... I'd rather read other literature and miss the references to God than spend my afternoons reading the Bible. It just doesn't sit well with me.
