Essential life skills...

As an adult who pays all his own bills, and hasn't murdered anyone or become a drug addict, I think I've done ok. I got into a discussion with a friend of mine the other day about "essential life skills" that all adults should have. I'd argue that these should be taught at a younger age, but still...

I said:
-Know how to change a tire on a car or bike
-Ability to understand basic banking (money in, money goes out, and ability to plan.)
-Know how to READ and FOLLOW a basic recipe.

What is an essential life skill ALL adults should have (in your opinion?)
