Is it possible to make meaningful friendships after 30? My mother seems to think they're all just very superficial and that thought slays me.

Hello TQC (long time no see :-) ).

I am going to London in several months' time, and I cannot decide what visa to apply for. I have three options available:
6-month visa that costs about $130;
2-year visa that costs about $400, and
5-year visa that costs about $800.

I can afford any one of them, although money is tight. I have a good chance of being granted any one of them, as well. I am also a PhD student and work full time, and don't have a lot of time to travel.

So on the one hand, if I am granted the longer visa (say 5 year one), I avoid a lot of stress, because applying for visas is never certain. On the other, I don't know if I will want to go to Great Britain 7 times in the next 5 years (7x130=910 > 800). I don't know if I should apply for the cheapest 6-month visa instead.

Choosing money vs the anxiety of the visa process, what would you choose?
