The Question Club
So I've always been a relatively shy person. Growing up I had mild social anxiety but I didn't let it stop me from doing the things I wanted to do. Around the age of 22, I went through something pretty traumatic and my anxiety worsened. It has now been almost 10 years and I still struggle with it constantly. I briefly saw a counselor to help me manage it and was suggested exposure therapy. However, I've noticed that things that once made me feel comfortable and didn't cause me anxiety, are now triggering it. For example, I've always loved roller coasters my entire life and have never felt fearful toward them, until the last few months. It's gotten so bad that when I go to amusement parks, I will end up avoiding the rides altogether. Another thing is flying. From the age of 12 to 18, I flew from FL to NY to see my dad every summer. I LOVED flying. Now? I can't even go to an airport without triggering a mild panic attack.|
My boyfriend and I are planning to get married soon and I would really love to go to another country for our honeymoon but I'm having a hard time working up the courage.
So my question is.... If you have anxiety, how do you handle it? Do you have any tips? What worked for you?
