urchin!

One of my New Years resolutions was to update my wardrobe, but spread it out over time since I don't have the budget to go out and buy a bunch of clothes/shoes/bras/etc.

One thing I need to upgrade is the shoe department. I am a flats and flip flops type of girl. But, I am 5'1, and I have noticed that people will speak to me a LOT differently when I am wearing heels, versus flats, especially in a professional environment. In flats, I get a lot of "Honey" and "Dear" and "Oh that's so sweet of you, but" comments. I can wear a low heel, but I can't wear anything above 2.5 inches or so. I want to change that. I do happen to have a couple of fairly new pairs of shoes that are super hot, but I can't wear them yet! They are too high. And by "too high" I mean 4 inches or so. But they are gorgeous and they make my legs look incredible when I am wearing them. And believe me I am SO not leggy, at all. If I have any flaw at all, it's the legs, and damn it if I have shoes that change that, then I'll do whatever it takes.

And I don't plan on wearing sky high heels every day since I don't want to be one of those women with gnarly feet when I'm older, and I also don't want to be one of those people that shortens their calves from wearing heels too much to the point where wearing flats becomes painful.

What do you suggest I do to graduate to my high heels? I have heard that I can use wedges, but I'm really not the biggest fan of wedges. I have also heard I should do chores in my apartment wearing heels and then eventually go out to get the mail, run errands in them, et cetra. However, this may pose a problem as I have all tile in my apartment and it's pretty slippery, and I keep envisioning myself breaking my ankle and finding myself in the hospital explaining that I was wearing stilettos while doing dishes as per usual. Any thoughts?

DK/DC: If you could think of the title of a listicle ("14 reasons why *blank* is bad" or "18 reasons you should *blank* and you've been doing *blankity blank blank* all wrong") without considering the actual "list" or what's in the listicle, what would it be?

Four friends and I, all knitters, have just started getting together more to sit and chat and knit for a few hours. We've decided to make it a standing meet-up at a local coffee establishment. This place has treats, coffee/espresso drinks and some savory food options. It's not a restaurant and has no table service.

There is ample seating, including but not limited to, two large tables that can accommodate 6-8 people each.

Today we were there for just over two hours total. We each had a coffee beverage and muffin or similar item. I tipped when I paid for my own order at the counter, though I'm not sure everyone in my group did.

Since we liked this place so much and it easily accommodated our small group, we agreed to make it our regular Monday place. We'll probably wind up staying about 2-2.5 hours there each Monday.

What is a good "hourly" rate for our staying in this space for that long? What's the minimum we should buy in order to stay there in good conscience?

Parents, tell me about your child and their nose picking...

my two year old has been ill on and off for awhile and has discovered the joy of it. I keep trying to give her tissues but occasionally I catch her doing other things. Every so often she proudly holds up her finger with a massive booger on it.

Help.
