The Question Club

what's something you wish you had more self motivation or drive to do? what's something you always say you'll do, but it never happens?

I always tell myself I'll clean my apartment a little at a time to keep it tidy on a consistent basis. it never happens, and instead I spend hours cleaning it from being a complete mess to a very clean level. rinse and repeat. I wish I could actually stick to the plan I want to do!

Time and Perspective [Jul. 27th, 2014|06:59 am]
The Question Club

I had a conversation with someone last night that turned into an interesting debate. Basically, I was accused of ageism because I don't believe that ten years ago was that long ago, and they do. I tried to explain that because I was still an adult, (not to mention, a parent), ten years ago, it feels like last year, as opposed to an entire decade. They felt I was completely invalidating their perspective, due to the fact that they happened to be a teenager 10 years ago. I feel sort of badly about making them feel that way, but truthfully, I DO think that since they haven't experienced enough adult-years to really gain my kind of perspective in the first place, it seems like a much longer time. Plus, it's more than a third of their life, so far.

Anyway: Do you feel like ten years ago was a long time ago? Does it feel like the last decade went by rather quickly, or does it seem like a lifetime? Aside from the obvious changes, (my kids getting older, family deaths, major life experiences), there are a lot of things that feel very similar to 2004, to me. Then again, maybe my own age makes me forget the differences. What do you think?

DK/DC - Do any of you pull all-nighters when you have to be somewhere early in the morning? I'm always afraid of not waking up, and I end up having anxiety all night. :/

ashy tone blonde hair [Jul. 27th, 2014|08:41 am]
The Question Club

question for the hair stylists: is toner only effective immediately after coloring?

my bef colored my hair a few months ago and we washed the toner out too soon and didn't achieve the ashy blonde color i was going for.

now that it's time to touch up my roots, i am wondering if i'll have to bleach my whole head again or if i can just tone it without?

i am thinking that toner probably works best on freshly bleached hair because it's so porous at that point, but hoping there's a way i can achieve the ash color without doing an all over color again.

what my hair looks like now & what i'm trying to achieve:Collapse )

I'm going to San Diego for a training for work this week.
I'm going to stay the weekend there to make it more of a trip than just a training.

Ideas on what to do while I'm in San Diego?

DK/DC: Does your employer pay for you to do any training? Do you go to conferences? What was your last training or conference like?

Another cheese fondue question. I've seen some recipes say you should prepare the fondue in a saucepan and then transfer it to the fondue pot. Others say to prepare it in the fondue pot. How do you usually do it?

How long do you need to know somebody before you feel comfortable farting around them? What about using their toilet to take a poop?

Are there bodily functions that should never, ever be shared?

Have you ever posed nude for an artist or photographer? Did you end up having sex with them?

I never did but I had a friend in college who lost her virginity to an artist she was posing for.

Dog tick infestation [Jul. 27th, 2014|07:04 pm]
The Question Club
I am insanely stressed out. I live in the Nation's Wang (Florida, US) where we grow super bugs that cannot be killed. And it's tick season. Guess what my home is infested with? Has anyone dealt with this before (especially in Florida?) and what did you do to solve?

Here are the gorey details...Collapse )

For those of you with no advice, are you willing to post something to cheer me up? I am about to snap.

A Question About Bugs [Jul. 27th, 2014|07:36 pm]
The Question Club

Hey TQC,

I just moved into a new apartment. In all ways it seems to be great - very clean, smells nice, everything is well maintained, nice area of town, nice neighbors, etc.

Over the past week I have found three baby roaches - one dying, and two dead. They were incredibly small, about a quarter the size of my pinky fingernail. If they were dying/dead already, is it possible that the apartment's weekly bug spraying is keeping the bugs from grabbing a foothold? And that I won't have to worry much? I have almost no experience with apartments, and don't have anything to go on. I am a very clean person - the idea of any bugs at all is horrifying to me. I take out the trash almost everyday, whether it's full or not, I wrap anything smelly in a plastic bag before it goes in the trash anyway, I vacuum, I keep the bathroom clean, I wash all the dishes right away, etc, etc.

I am not kidding. If I get a bug problem I will not be able to be comfortable here at all - I'd never sleep from paranoia.

What have been your experiences with apartments, and such? Should I be concerned? What do I do? Help! :-(

Facebook, Ideologies, and Etiquette [Jul. 27th, 2014|09:51 pm]
The Question Club

How often do your friends/people you follow on social media share/post content you disagree with? Not just like "I think your fandom is stupid" disagree with; more like "I think this attitude is all that is wrong in the world" disagree with. (But that's just, like, your opinion, man.)

If/when they do, do you ever comment on it?

ETA: what about when people who are normally "with it" (as per your definition of "with it") post something stupid (as per your definition of "stupid")? Does that change anything?
