The Question Club
I had a conversation with someone last night that turned into an interesting debate. Basically, I was accused of ageism because I don't believe that ten years ago was that long ago, and they do. I tried to explain that because I was still an adult, (not to mention, a parent), ten years ago, it feels like last year, as opposed to an entire decade. They felt I was completely invalidating their perspective, due to the fact that they happened to be a teenager 10 years ago. I feel sort of badly about making them feel that way, but truthfully, I DO think that since they haven't experienced enough adult-years to really gain my kind of perspective in the first place, it seems like a much longer time. Plus, it's more than a third of their life, so far. |
Anyway: Do you feel like ten years ago was a long time ago? Does it feel like the last decade went by rather quickly, or does it seem like a lifetime? Aside from the obvious changes, (my kids getting older, family deaths, major life experiences), there are a lot of things that feel very similar to 2004, to me. Then again, maybe my own age makes me forget the differences. What do you think?
DK/DC - Do any of you pull all-nighters when you have to be somewhere early in the morning? I'm always afraid of not waking up, and I end up having anxiety all night. :/
