So you send a message to a friend knowing that they were going to be in town. You don't get a reply back for almost two weeks. You see them on all the time. How would you take this comment that they reply to you?
Me : I here your coming to fdl for a few days. Mabye ill get the chance to see you even if its just to say hi?
Her : Sorry I didn't get to say HI while we were there! It was a super short trip and we did family stuff the whole time. Maybe next time.
Note : I also saw pictures of them hanging out with other people so that was a complete lie that they just did "family stuff"

1. What is the saddest damn song you ever heard? Bonus points for links to said song.

2. What never fails to cheer you up? It can be anything - a food, an activity, a certain person, a song, anything.

So, I was given a pair of old cross country skis today.  They look like the top pair in this picture.  I know nothing about cross country skiing.  I would likely only be going recreationally, a few times a winter.  Will these work, or I will be left far behind everyone else I go with, who has more modern skis?

DKDC - Did you anything active today?  If so, what?

What do you do to take your mind of off things when something bad/sad has happened or you're in the waiting limbo?

My mom called an hour and a half ago to say my grandpa was in the ICU with pulmonary aspiration (literally having food go down the 'wrong way') and that he would probably be okay, but his doctor wasn't there yet and she would call me later. I don't know when later is and I live over three hours from the rest of my family, so I'm here by myself, watching netflix and checking my phone for missed calls every few minutes. My grandpa has a horrible history of severe GERD so these problems aren't too uncommon for him, but he's now 89, so.

I've been trying to cut back on chemical compounds and I do a lot of my cleaning with vinegar.

Unfortunately, vinegar apparently attracts fruit flies.

What natural ingredient can I add to my cleaning solution that will deter them?  Surprisingly, neither Google nor Pinterest has been especially helpful, unless you can think of better keywords than I can.

What are some good costume dramas, TQC? I love Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge, The Bletchley Circle, and The Bomb Girls, and I'd like some more in the same vein; well-researched, authentic costumes, but a bit of melodrama is fine by me.

thanks to fraiser...

hey tqc, i'm curious to know your thoughts on gift giving. on an episode of Frasier, he lends Ros some money after she complains of financial hardship--she then buys/does things that Frasier feels are fiscally irresponsible--he loaned her the money, but he had preconceived notions on how she should spend it. of course, that leads to a big blow up where it's revealed that he's completely wrong, blahblahblah, but it got me to thinking...

are you allowed to set parameters on a gift for someone, or does that make it not a gift?

in my specific situation, a girl working at my store complained of her gas needle being below empty and having less than a dollar in her bank account. she lived pretty far away (20+ miles), has a kid, and recently took a pay cut, so on my break i went to the gas station and bought her $15 in gift cards b/c i've had good deeds paid forward to me recently. i asked the attendant if they were only good for gas and she told me no, they're good for anything in the store.

when she went on her break, she got the gas, but she also came back with a new pack of cigarettes. i didn't say anything to her and i'm not going to, because i gave her those gift cards, none of my business, etc, but i couldn't help but wonder if she bought them with the cards. plenty of other things could have happened--she could have been exaggerating about having less than a buck to her name, she could have had a carton out in the car--whatever.

is this just an issue of semantics, or is there another word i should use in place of gift?
