If I wanted to travel somewhere in the USA by myself, where should I go?
I'd like to go somewhere with interesting landscapes, not a city break. I'd be interested in volunteering or something like WWOOFing too. Leaving from Orlando, looking to go for less than 5 days.

Last night, I turned onto a highway, accelerating from a full stop to around 40mph, and my car made this sound like a panting dog. Well, not a panting dog exactly, but you know that sound dogs make when they're excited that's kind of between a pant and a bark? It sounded like that. Like a cheerful huffing sound. Which sounds adorable, but now I'm a bit worried!

Any idea what could have caused it? I drive a '94 Toyota Corolla, it seemed to be coming from the front part of the car, where the engine and all that is, it lasted for maybe 5-10 seconds, and as far as I can recall, the car behaved completely normally aside from making that bizarre sound. My car has started shaking a bit whenever I go over 50mph (it used to just shake when I went over 60), so, uh..any idea why it's doing that, and could it be related to the dog thing?

Of course there's always the possibility that a dog latched onto the underside of my car and got excited whenever I really started to gain some speed, then snuck off after I parked, but I'll let TQC be the judge of that (and soon, a mechanic!).

Where is someplace you really want to go to, but have never been?

Why do you want to go there?

What's stopping you?

What's the best place you've ever traveled, and what was so great about it?

Dear god, please help me do things.

So my bf and I just moved into our new place, and we're trying to hang some artwork and other things. The walls are a very hard, pain-in-the-ass plaster that's hard to nail/drill into, so we've been trying to use command strips (that are supposedly supposed to hold 16 lbs), but they aren't working. Everything we've hung has fallen down, no matter how many strips we've used. A very nice, expensive piece that had been hanging just fine for a month just fell from the wall yesterday, knocking stuff off a table below, and breaking glass and stuff everywhere. How can we hang these damn things? Is there something better than command strips out there? Some other magical secret to adhering shit to walls?

I am not a handy woman at all :(

Read the question first so you don't check the wrong ones [Sep. 25th, 2013|02:09 pm]

[fourcorners]

You're on a first date. You met the other person online. They seem nice enough and attractive enough, but you're still feeling each other out. Your date tells you that he/she has been home most of the day, waiting for the date. While talking, you notice something about their appearance that may count against them. Overall, they're decent, not extraordinary, and they contain a notable flaw. Which of these physical/personal flaws would be large enough for you to refuse a second date? Anything you don't check, it's assumed that you could overlook this flaw, that it wouldn't be critical enough to stop dating this person who you met online

Is about 30lbs heavier than their online photo indicated
12(1.3%)
Has body odor. You detect no scent of deodorant/perfume/cologne, so they didn't even try to smell good for your first date
112(12.3%)
You detect the smell of marijuana on your date
59(6.5%)
You detect the smell of cigarette on your date
53(5.8%)
You suspect your date is drunk. You arrived at the restaurant first, interestingly enough
100(11.0%)
You see a hole in their shirt, by the armpit. There's also a small hole near their crotch. Apparently, your date has no qualms about wearing clothes that are falling apart
41(4.5%)
He/she is wearing a promise ring, and a bracelet with the words CELIBACY on it
91(10.0%)
He/she is wearing a WWJD bracelet. Wants to say grace before the meal, so the bracelet is not ironic
96(10.5%)
Is wearing not only cheap-looking, Payless tennis shoes, but they're dirty
11(1.2%)
Pants have a dried food stain. Shirt has a grease stain. Your date didn't even put on clean clothes to meet you
97(10.6%)
Is wearing sunglasses indoors
40(4.4%)
He/she rode a bicycle to your date. Admits that he/she doesn't own a car
13(1.4%)
Dirty fingernails. Hair looks dirty, limp. Your date doesn't appear to have bathed before meeting you
96(10.5%)
If your date is a guy, he has a high, feminine voice. If it's a girl, she has a husky, deep, manly voice
23(2.5%)
The arm of their coat slides up, and you notice a forearm tattoo of the Twilight cover art. He/she seemed to have tried to hide it from you
69(7.6%)

Have you started listening to Christmas carols yet or am I the only one? Too soon?

This year the adults in my family have decided to do a hamper for another family with children and also for a senior without family instead of exchanging gifts amongst ourselves and I'm clearly way too excited about it.

What are you waiting for?

What's the last nice thing you did for someone?

ETA: This post is making me really happy you guys! :)

So today I found out that my teeth are even worse than I thought they were and need a shitload of work done.

In that spirit, what sort of health problems do you have? What do you do to try and alleviate them?

DK/DC/You're too depressing: What's your favorite type of exercise?

For me, nothing beats a long walk on a sunny, warm-but-not-hot day.

Does anyone have the iPhone 5s? What's your favorite feature? I'm upgrading next month (I'm eligible + it's my birthday and my iPhone 4 screen has gone screwy). What color did you get? I'm leaning silver, although I'm curious about "space gray"? Also, did you get a leather case for it? What color? Does anyone know if there are any hardcore cases for it yet (like an Otterbox Defender)? They make my phone bulky, but they keep it nice and shiny. :)

DK/DC/Would rather talk about real apples: What's your favorite kind of apple? I enjoy the Honeycrisp myself.

Hey guys, I was wondering what your favorite wine is, and why do you like it? (I've never had wine before. Champagne a few times.) Either way, I would love to get more into wine, but I'm not sure where to start. Maybe something light and fruity? Whatever you guys suggest.

Photoshop Elements Question [Sep. 25th, 2013|09:54 pm]
The Question Club

thequestionclub

[aviv_b]
I've been using Photoshop Elements for years with no problems. I mostly use it for making slide shows with music of trip pictures.  I would now like to be able to add video clips to these slide shows.

Early versions of this program included the ability to add video clips to the slide shows. Now it appears that you need the Premiere Elements program to get this to work. Unfortunately, I cannot use the Premiere Elements video program as some audio programs I use for recording appear to interfere with the program loading.

Is there a way to convert my video clips into a format that Photoshop Elements will allow me to use in a slide show? (I don't need to edit the clips in Photoshop, I've always used Free Studio for this).

Alternatively, Is there another program that I can move my edited pictures to that will allow me to make a slide show that includes video clips and a sound track? It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but the ability to quickly reorder slides, insert blank slides with text and drag and drop audio would be nice.

(cross posted to ask me anything)
