death..... [Jul. 15th, 2013|05:08 am]

Inspired by mick's response in my previous post about Cory Monteith (rest in peace)…..

Has a celebrity's death ever really upset you? If so……whose death(s)? You don't have to explain why.

For me, I'd say Cory Monteith's and Heath Ledger's deaths hit me really hard. I've lost people to addiction and it still hurts.

Sorry for the glum posts, have a kitten….

I haven't shopped at WalMart in over ten years. I abhor everything about that store/company.

Here is my dilemma. Target is just as bad. Is this true?

If that's the case, I'd love to find a way to avoid that store as well.

Do you know of any acceptable solutions? Are national drug store chains better? Should I be buying all of my shampoos/TP/detergents/soaps/etc there? I'm not entirely sure that would work for our budget.

How do you become a full-fledged socially conscious consumer?

Tips and advice are most welcomed!

After an unusually heavy night of drinking, you wake up the next morning in a strange back yard. You recognize the general neighborhood, but not the house. You're about 3 miles from home. You can't find your cell phone, your wallet or your keys, and you're also not wearing pants. You still have on your underwear, and you just know that nothing bad happened to you the night before. You just took your pants off and misplaced them. So, of all the observations you've made, which one would cause you the most panic? They're all worrisome, but which one would make you the most anxious?

Do you know where to find flavoring for candy/sorbet/ice pops/etc, preferably offline, besides traditional fruit flavors? We want to make cotton candy, bubble gum and lime-flavored stuff, but I've only found basic fruit flavors so far :(

Do you have a favorite ice pop or sorbet (for an ice cream machine) recipe?

Where shall we eat for Thanksgiving [Jul. 15th, 2013|03:38 pm]
The Question Club

[littleminds]
Hello TQC.

I recognize the irony in posting asking where I should eat following a previous post...but, um, where should I eat?

My boyfriend and I are going to be in Orlando, Florida for Thanksgiving. We're both from the UK (well I grew up in South Africa but that has no bearing on this) and I would like to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. A few people have suggested Gaylord Palms, but looking at their menu, it seems to not be 'traditional' Thanksgiving food. Over here, weeks before Christmas, every pub, restaurant and even leisure centre seems to do Christmas dinner. Is it like that in Orlando? Or are more restaurants and chains closed? Do I need to get something booked now or can I wait until we are there - we arrive on 21srt November. I was hoping to stay away from parks for the few days around thanksgiving but we do have 21 days Disney, 14 days sea world, Busch Gardens, Universal and Islands of Adventure tickets. So I won't rule out eating at a park.

Jewelry cleaning [Jul. 15th, 2013|05:09 pm]

[aviv_b]
How do you clean mixed metal jewelry, especially if there are pearls or other delicate stuff attached? I know you shouldn't use silver jewelry cleaner, and I use vinegar for copper jewelry, but what about earrings that have silver/brass/copper and seed pearls? The Internet has failed to yield an answer and I just know I'm either going to ruin these if I use the general jewelry cleaner stuff I have or still end up with the copper looking tarnished.

DK/DC:  Do you wear toe rings? Will you post a picture if you do?

My husband was diagnosed with the auto-immune disease sarcoidosis recently. All anyone seems to know is it was talked about on the show House a lot!

It sounds like sometimes it is merely annoying (but should still be monitored) and some of the time it can be quite serious.

Are you or any of your loved ones afflicted with this? What is your experience? What kind of monitoring and tests do you do and what does your provider tell you to watch for? Thanks!

Canadians, do you wear shoes indoors?  Is taking them off at the door a house/family rule or would you say it's Canadian?  I usually think of it as an Asian custom.  When did it become a Canadian thing?  Was this going on in the 1970's?  1870's?  I'm trying to recall Canadian TV shows I've seen, mostly cop or scifi shows, but I don't remember shoe removal in them.  If it is cultrual, do Canadian stores sell tons of house slippers, and do you stock guest slippers, or do you sport socks/bare feet?  Are there public places in Canada where shoe removal is required?

Non-Canadians, do you remove your shoes at the door?  Do you make guests take their shoes off in your home?  Is it a house rule or customary for your locale?

I have a possibly stupid question. If I take a non-drowsy allergy medicine tonight, will the "non-drowsy" aspect make it difficult for me to sleep? Should I suffer tonight, and take it in the morning and hopefully it'll last until I get back after work? I'm staying at my parents' house for the week, and I'm allergic to something in the house. UGH.

(I seriously sneezed about 10 times while typing this)

Listerine [Jul. 15th, 2013|11:22 pm]

[wobblerlorri]
Lately after I brush my teeth with sensitive tooth toothpaste, I've been rinsing with this Listerine Total Care stuff, because it's what we have. About 30 min after I've rinsed, I have this sort of sticky membranous goop all over the insides of my cheeks -- none on my tongue or the roof of my mouth.

TQC, what is this mysterious matter? Is it a layer of dead bacteria? Is it ectoplasm? Is it a sign of a horrible reaction and I'm going to die from Listerine Total Care mouthwash?

DK/DC: do you brush by hand or electric?
