The Question Club

[mood |curiouscurious]

You get home from work at night and you see this young girl sitting on the stairs in front of your apartment alone. You ask if she's alright and she tells you no and that her friend wont let her in the house and she's stranded and has no way to get back home to a city that is 40 minutes away from where you live. You ask if she has family she can call and she says no, they're all 40 minutes away in the city she's trying to get to and they won't come get her. She tells you she's sixteen and has been outside for hours and has nowhere she can go locally and she has no way home. She has a bag with her with what looks like a spare change of clothes among other things.

What would you do?

What's the greatest thing you have ever found on the street or in the trash?

I just found some records, including a jazz 78 by a band featuring a very young Charles Mingus on bass.

Recommendations? [Mar. 22nd, 2013|07:41 am]
The Question Club

I would really like to improve my grammar skills. I try so hard but the rules seem too arbitrary, infinite, and subjective. I've always said that people who are good in grammar must have great memory. Can anyone recommend how to go about improving my grammatical skills?

Things I'd Love
-Book recommendations
-Program or software recommendations
-Websites (free or paid, I would love to find like a Pearson Lab for grammar)

If it has tests and answers I would be ecstatic.

Is anyone here familiar with allergy testing/food allergies?
I had a skin prick test as a child and the only things that reacted (4 on a scale of 1-5 I think) were wheat and dust but I never really had any allergy issues, I'd get a big hive on my jawline if I ate like 352532 butter tarts or something. But now I'm getting hives on a daily basis and I can't really figure out what it's from, and I feel nauseated sometimes. Do allergies develop/get stronger as your age? Is there a more definitive allergy test for food allergies? Or should I just try restricting wheat/gluten and see if I feel better. I'm a snacker & don't do many scheduled full meals so I haven't really noticed any patterns of what might be triggering this.

What are you allergic to?

How many of you have had your wisdom teeth removed?

Does your cellphone have a password so other people can't use it?

If so, is this because you're just careful or because you know someone who likes to go snooping?

Do you have a favourite historical character, or event, or time period? Who/what, and why?

Have you ever become completely obsessed with a historical character?

Got any favourite history books or good historical (non-fantasy) fiction to recommend (esp medieval period)?

So you've made some mistakes and now are in serious danger. Thus you must go into hiding and adopt a whole new identity under which you will live your new life. Due to the constraints of getting all kinds of paperwork that will hold up under scrutiny, your naming options are rather limited. Which of these will you pick to be your new first name, that everyone from now on will know you as?

According to your new documents, you are a naturalized citizen of your country. Which of these options is the birthplace of the new you? (If your actual country is on here, don't pick it :P)

East Germany
South Africa
New Zealand
Cape Verde

I'm trying to find an old friend I went to high school with on Facebook. She has a really common name. I can't seem to work out if there's a way to search for "Jane Doe who went to XYZ High School" instead of just looking through a million pages of Jane Doe. Does anyone know if this is possible? I tried googling her name + high school name and nothing came up. :/

Do you have any experience with couchsurfing.org (either as a host or a surfer)?  How was it?

If not, would you ever consider couch surfing as a cheap travel option?

I joined Fitocracy and downloaded Zombies Run! today. I was just wondering if Zombies Run! would be okay for someone who is 315 pounds and hasn't worked out in two years due to massive depression, and if you can change your settings on Fitocracy to private so nobody can see your posts?

DK/DC - What show did you grow up with that you really miss because it's not on air anymore? I'm currently marathoning through Stargate SG-1, Boy Meets World, Gilmore Girls, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
