in your view, is mental illness as valid a reason to miss school/work/other commitments as physical illness? like if someone is experiencing a severe bout of depression or anxiety, would you consider that to be on par with them having the flu? should it be left to the discretion of the ill person?
So... my Mom and I are having a disagreement. Recently, she has begun friending a bunch of "celebrities" on Facebook. She is 100% convinced that these are the real celebrities. According to her, she has conversations with these people daily. The thing is, these pages are obviously fake. Any reasonable person would be able to tell. The pages are usually listed under a variation of the person's name, with or without spelling errors. For example, Justin Timberlake might show up as Justin Randall Timberlake or Jay Tee, Miley Cyrus is Chic Cyrus, and Marilyn Manson is Marilynn Manson, etc. I have tried talking to her about this and she says she can't PROVE whether they are fake or not, just that she BELIEVES they are, she just has a feeling. Even when she's given irrefutable evidence that they are fake, she says, "I'm not crazy!!"
TQC: Is my Mom crazy? What do you think? Should I just let her believe what she wants?
Are you guys friends with any celebrities on Facebook?
Who's the latest trendy, big-name, superstar actress that everyone's talking about? I don't have a person in mind I'm trying to remember, I just need to know who's really in the limelight right now, and I'm not willing to read People magazine to find out.
So, this whole horse-meat-in-ground-beef thing in the UK: is there a health-based reason for this being a problem, are people mad because they bought one thing while thinking it's something else, or is it a matter of "cows are ugly and okay to eat, but horsies are cute pets"?
Do you have any pets? What crazy things have they done lately?
So, I just moved into a new apartment with a one-year lease. I will be leaving the country for work purposes for ~7 months starting in May, and will be coming back at Christmas. Hence, I need to find someone to sublet the place while I'm away since I can't afford to pay for this place and the place where I'll be living while overseas. I'm kind of worried about bringing this up with the property manager since I *just* moved in and they are known to be quite strict about ~rules~ and such (although they can't legally prevent me from subletting), but I don't really have a choice.
Obviously, since I will still be legally responsible for anything that goes on while I'm away, I want to find the best possible person to sublet the place. I plan to meet applicants in person and ask for references and proof of income, and the property manager runs background checks on potential tenants. The building has a "mature" atmosphere (i.e. many retirees and some young professionals and older students in their mid-20s+; almost no younger people or families) so I will be looking for someone who fits that profile. I'm also going to have a look at my province's (Ontario) landlord/tenant laws to make sure everything is done by the book, but I'm still pretty anxious about the whole situation since it's for such a long period of time, I'll be too far away to be very involved once the new person moves in, and I've heard plenty of horror stories.
How would you screen potential subletters, TQC?
*edit for clarity*
I have been living in this complex for almost seven years, so I have a good relationship with the property manager. I had to move apartments because of changing relationship circumstances, so I didn't have a choice but to sign a new lease. The lease agreement states that they cannot legally prevent me from subletting without good reason. I just want to make sure I find a good tenant so I don't get screwed!
I am watching Saved by the Bell. Will you tell me your thoughts about this show? Did you hate it, did you love it, why? Can you name some of the most awkward moments in the series? What were your favorite moments? etc.
is there anyone in this community who has moved from a country outside of europe to the uk, for study, marriage, whatever? i'm wondering because people complain about how easy it is for 'foreigners' to get in, but the immigration rules seem pretty intense (i was reading the ones for americans who want to move to the uk)?
a tycoon wants to shoot you and your SO into space for 501 days. You orbit Mars and come back. This ain't the Enterprise. You'd be stuck in a capsule the size of a small bathroom in zero gravity. But you'd be the first people to do it. Aside from the inherent danger...would you and your SO be capable of the trip???
Will you show me some of your favorite photographs?
I am taking a photography class and this week's assignment is to re-create a professional photographers picture. Can you recommend some pictures for me to try to re-create? (I don't have photoshop so I don't edit any pictures except for cropping).
