My SO and I are thinking of moving out of our current apartment into something bigger. We saw another apartment in the same complex that we really love and has everything we want, but it's a bit expensive. Rent would be about 1/3 of our combined incomes.

We are debating whether we want to pay more for our dream apartment, or downgrade to a cheaper one so we can save money.

Details:
1. We'd have no trouble paying for the more expensive one, but we would end up saving less for the future.
2. If we downgraded, we'd have to move out of the complex because we're currently living in the cheapest floorplan.
3. If we upgraded, we would only have to move across the street.

What would you do in this situation? Move into awesome apartment, or suck it up and save money?

this is possibly (likely) a stupid question

Is there any way to somewhat predict the currency conversion rates? We owe my husband's parents a significant amount of money, and I just now noticed that the conversion rate is better than it was a month or so ago. (Converting USD to GBP.) I'm wondering if it would be better to wait awhile to pay them back - it could save us a few hundred more dollars if it keeps going this way. (They don't care when we pay them back, so that's not a factor.)

A company is hiring for an "Administrative Assistant" position. What tasks would you assume are assigned to this position?

For the sake of the question let's say it's an office environment where everyone works at their computers all day.

Anyone know any good pop culture sites/blogs/etc that focused aren't focused on the gossip, mean girl, assumptions aspect of it.

What are your most masculine actions, attributes and mannerisms? What about feminine? Whatever masculine and feminine means to you. Are there some you wish you had more of either one?

What are your thoughts on The Bachelor/Bachelorette? Do you think the people on those shows actually take shit as seriously as it seems like they do?

What are your favourite reality TV shows?

So it used to be, few years ago, that when you called computer company support lines, you generally got someone with a foreign accent, often Indian subcontinent - my experience at least. Recently, several experiences of mine + friend would seem to suggest that, HP at least has switched over to using employees with Southern US type accents. This has been the case in several phone calls about unrelated issues over last half year or so...

anyone else had dealings with big name computer company support/warranty/customer service calls recently? what did your person sound like?

any ideas/thoughts about the change?
Evolved?

So I had this interesting discussion with a "very religious" person and I was surprised that we found common ground on the issue of "creationalism" and "evolution". I myself am not religious per se, I guess I am more agnostic, aka backing my odds both ways in case there is a higher power or powers *lol*. Seriously, I do think there are powers or forces, be they God or what have you, but I also strongly believe in evolution. Anyway he and I both agreed that creationalism and evolution are, in our opinions, not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Edit: "Creationalism" is the same as "creationism", just 3 years at Catholic school, where mentioning "creationism" was banned, we found a way around it and the term stuck and became part of my personal vernacular, sorry for any misunderstanding.

Based on this I give you this poll:

Do you think the creationalism view is also compatible with an evolutionary view of species?

Do you know who any of the following people are? By this I mean not that you recognize their names, but that if someone told a joke about them or showed you a clip of something they were in, you'd know who it was.

This image just popped up in my reader.

Apparently I need to start carrying a weapon of some sorts. Seems like lots of people are.
I'm anti-gun. So perhaps a nice knife at the very least?

I am female, 39, married, mama of two.

Is it a good idea to have a weapon on your person?
Or would I be inviting accidents?

My children do not ever go into my purse. (They are 5 and 8yo)

Do you carry a weapon?
A knife?

What kind of knife should I be carrying?

What's the most eye-roll-worthy complaint you've heard recently?

I know someone who won't stop bitching about how expensive her week-long vacation to Mexico is going to be, even though her parents are paying for most of it.

edit: also, wtf is this picture? Collapse )
