do you have friends who have one weird quirk you cant get past? so much so that you can barely be around them?

i have a really good friend but she loves to swear and crack vulgar jokes anytime she can. it was amusing at first but now it's just tiring and... it just comes out of nowhere. example: we were both texting each other and i told her i missed her and we should have a sleepover soon. her response was to say "faaak yuuuhhh! <3" lol wat?

What was the last display of idiocy you saw on Facebook?

I was browsing the photos of a girl I went to high school with, who is white. There was a photo of her posing in a bar with two black men, and they were all sort of grimacing at the camera. Someone (an older, like in her 40's white woman) commented, "where was this taken?" and the girl in the picture replies with the name of the bar of whatever, and the original commenter says "it looks like a screenshot from a movie about a beautiful girl kidnapped by gang members :)" so totally oblivious the implications of what she said, thinking she's making such a creative comment on the artisticness and beauty of the photo. I said "WHA" irl in a room by myself when I read it. One of the men from the photo replied simply "?" I wanted to take a screenshot but the comments seem to have been deleted, which is weird because they posted months ago and I only just saw the picture yesterday.

My parents have been happily married for twenty-four wonderful years. They have always been openly, DEEPLY in love and have modelled what it means to have a healthy, happy relationship. Through my dad's medical issues, my mom's problems with depression, and extreme financial issues, they have made the best of life with their sense of humor and trust in one another.
Mom is 48. Dad is 65. Dad was diagnosed with dementia a few years back, which has now turned into Alzheimer's. I now live 1800 miles away from them, so I can't physically be there for either of them, though I call almost every day. My mom has been having a hard time -- She now feels like she isn't a wife anymore, just a caregiver. And they are no longer intimate. My dad gets very emotional and has crying outbursts, being terrified that my mom is going to put him in a nursing home/will leave him, etc. My mom lost her job last year, so she is always home with him, which now works out because she, my sister, and I really don't think he should be left alone at home. I have been helping them financially and listening to my mom when she needs to talk, even though it is very, very overwhelming for me.

What would you do if you were in this situation and discovered that your mom is now cheating on your dad? (As a side note, I really don't want to hear shit about how no one should be snooping around in anyone else's phone/computer/etc or invading privacy like that. I honestly am too heartbroken to give a shit how awful of a thing this might have been for my sister or me to do.) My mom wasn't very good AT ALL with hiding it from us when we came home to visit. It was very, very obvious, which is the only reason we even thought about looking through her phone or on their computer history. I'm sure it's easy for her to hide it from Dad since he can't remember a whole lot and can be pretty oblivious at times.

I really try to understand what she is going through and everything she must be feeling. I really, really do. I'm sure she still loves my dad. She must be very, very lonely. But it is so easy for me to feel insanely angry about all this -- After all they have been through together and what my Dad has helped her overcome, it has all come down to this? Due to her depression and fragile mentality, I have always been understanding of her lethargy, her need to talk about everything even though it kills me, and all the financial help I give them. But it's so hard not to freak the fuck out sometimes.

What would you do? Would you confront your mom? That's the big dilemma I am having right now, aside from being mindfucked about what I thought was the ideal model of a marriage. Any advice? She has no idea that we are aware.

Sorry to be so goddamn depressing. Usually, I can keep my cool, but I'm at work totally filled with anxiety and was hoping maybe to find someone who has been in a similar situation or has some words of advice as to what they would do. Thanks!

Feeling Useful

Have any of you ever gone through periods of time when you felt like you were useless and like you didn't really server a purpose in life?

Just wondering.  Lately I've felt this way on and off.   I feel like my life is just me doing what I have to do to get by and not a whole lot else.

So, tqc, my car insurance just jumped up to $350 a month due to my family's medical history. *fustrated huff* That's more then my car payment for goodness sake! Argh.

What do you pay for your car insurance?

When I was a small girl of 5 or so, a LARGE brown stranger dog came up to me with a beat up, dog-spit-covered mud spattered doll missing its head and deposited it at my feet. I was told not to interact with stranger dogs lest they tear my face off so I ignored it and as I went about my play not making eye contact, the dog kept on dropping and re-dropping the doll at my feet. I thought at the time that this must be a magical stranger dog to know that I am a girl and girls like dolls but I realized decades later that he probably just wanted me to throw it for him.

Did you ever have a mind-melding experience with an animal when you were a little kid?

Anyone else have the flu? I feel like I'm dying. I haven't been this sick in a long time :( I've been gargling with salt water to help my sore throat & have been drinking lots of water but does anyone have any other tips?

Any suggestions as to where I could find a white tuxedo that is made from over 90% natural materials?

My friend is getting married and her fiancé wants a tie-dyed tuxedo for the ceremony. She was going to try to do this herself. To tie-dye something, it needs to be made of a natural material like cotton or rayon. Most tuxes seem to be made of polyester. Do cotton tuxes even exist?

I have been diagnosed with HPV after some unsightly warts came up.

I have had them frozen off 3 times. The first time, they disappeared and came back way worse and bigger, the second and third times did nothing.

Does anyone have experience with this? I know most people carry the virus with no symptoms but I'm really scared and embarrassed.

The doctor prescribed me a cream which costs $100. I'm considering this but don't want to spend the money if it won't work? :/

What is your biggest complaint about a relative?
My aunt is SO judge-y.  I can't even go to a restaurant with her because she treats waitstaff like shit and it drives me crazy.

Closest friend?
My best friend can be REALLY passive-aggressive and that's the one thing that makes me shut down completely.

Significant other (ETA: if you have one)?
He's amazing in nine bazillion ways but he's horrible with paperwork.  He owns his own business and the office is a mess.  I'm currently trying to organize getting his driver's license back because he just took the tickets and stuck them in a drawer.  For 3 years.
