blood donor

My son gave blood for the first time this week. He's 16. We had a blizzard a couple of weeks ago and the local Red Cross is low on blood because of that, so my husband decided it was time for the kid to get started (my husband is a big-time blood donor already).

How old were you the first time you gave blood?

ETA: My son had already expressed an interest in giving blood on more than one occasion but he was not yet old enough. His father and I did not MAKE him go--it was just a really good time to go, because it's winter break and the Red Cross needed donors.

Is there anything about you that makes you feel not normal compared to most people you encounter?

I am a very picky eater and I have never met anyone who doesn't like more than 2-3 foods.

ETA: Also, do you consider your family to be "dysfunctional"? How do you define functional and dysfunctional families?
mst3k: it stinks!

I'm having a fairly bad winter break. What the hell can I do to make it better?

DK/DC: Any plans for NYE? I'm doing my tradition of the Twilight Zone Marathon on Sci-Fi (I refuse to call it SyFy). 10+! I've seen every episode. /something I'm very proud of.

Do you have anything you find so irresistibly tasty you can not stop eating it until your sick to your stomach or even after your sick?

I need people hide licorice from me. I love it, especially red vines, and will eat pounds of it if it's available. The only thing that stops me is being able to not see it/not owning it.

Animation programs

A long time ago, I had access to a computer program that was like Photoshop, but you could make "stacks" of pictures that could be saved as an animation, with "onion skin" to keep the animation consistent. It was an older version of Painter, and they stopped making the program like that, as far as I can tell. I think they basically jacked the price up and took out the animation capabilities in the new ones.

Does anyone know of a good animation program that's like Painter(and for windows) that doesn't break the bank? I keep finding complicated programs that aren't any fun to use (not user friendly), and have no real tutorial support. Any ideas?

Do you watch American Horror Story? What do you think of the current season?

Do you have any toxic family members? Will you tell me about them and why they're toxic?
-On the same note, have you ever given someone a Christmas gift and had them shit all over it and say it's not good enough?

Some friends and I are having a small NYE party tomorrow and I want to bring ingredients for a cocktail/cocktails. Something festive but nothing too sweet or with 100 ingredients.

Any ideas? Recipes? Your favourite cocktail?

I am in Chicago right now on both a soul adventure / a lovely extended date. I love Chicago. I am having a great time and am pretty proud of how well I am able to keep swimming, so to speak, even when I am very far away from my people and my life. however, I have had a tough day today a little - mostly fine, and still a nice day, but I have felt a little homesick / tired / lacking alone time and that is dredging up some insecurity and exhaustion. I am about halfway through my trip, which will be 8 days in total (not all in Chicago).

so for all you travelers out there - do you experience depression and anxiety as a result of travel? if so, how do you manage it while you're physically away from your comfort zone / supports?

I know it's probably been asked a million times, but humour me.

What music do you like to listen to when you're bummed out? Are there specific songs/artists/albums? Or just music with a certain 'mood' to it?
