SM: Darkest Fear

What's the most ridiculous idea you've ever personally thought of?

I just had the urge to make a bullet proof umbrella and then spent the last 20 minutes looking into how it could be done. Then I realized how odd my search history was going to be and stopped.

Phone Interview

I have a phone interview with the director of education of an animal advocacy group Friday. What sort of things do I need to know before the interview about the company's background, other than its main goal, year it was founded, and who founded it? Any advice for the interview in general? The internship is right up my alley and I don't want to fuck it up.

If you swim, how many lengths of an average sized pool would you do?
I'm trying to get into swimming and I'm looking for something to aim towards.

If you run, how long do you usually run for? Again, I'm trying to get into running and I'm not sure how long I should be running for.

If you don't swim or run, what do you do to keep fit?

Do you like getting a lot of "happy birthday" facebook wall comments on your birthday? (ETA: Would you be sad if you got none, or few?) Are you one of those who thinks birthday fb comments are lazy and impersonal and worthless?

Is there somewhere on facebook where you can view all of your friends' birthdays on one page, maybe listed by month? It seems like there should be, and that would be useful/interesting.

It's my roommate's birthday and I'm going to make him a cake. What's something funny I could write on it? Nothing fancy, just something silly. Something random and offensive would probably be funny to him.

I started a LJ for my niece last night and friended her so I can see whats going on in her life and try to help her alittle.

Should I allow her to read my personal LJ or should I just let her see certian things?

Are any of your family members on LJ and if so, are you friends with them?

TQC, I'm at home today with my 3 1/2 year old daughter. She had an accident last night and ended up with 3 stitches near the corner of her left eye.

Needless to say, she's fairly traumatized.

Can we have a funny picture/gif post to cheer her up? She's been glued to my lap all day, and I'm running out entertainment ideas.

Are there people who have real psychic abilities?

So, my coworker went to a psychic the other day. Her description of my coworker was dead on. She told her she was nosey, that she thought only she could do things right (for example: say somebody does the dishes, she'd go do them over again because they weren't to her standard), that she is the dominant person in her relationship, and that she grew up in an abusive household and her children did as well. All of this was true. She told her that 'in 5 days, 5 weeks, 5 months something will happen in your life that will change you forever.' At the end of this year she is going on a trip to Honduras to help build a school for children, which even *I* had been thinking will be a life-changer for her. She then went on with her future predictions, all of which we wont know if theyre true until a couple years to come.

I never really believed in psychics, but I don't know how this stranger could know all about her personality and past without knowing even her name before meeting her? So is she the real deal, or what are ways for people to find out these kinds of details without knowing who theyre going to be reading beforehand?

I write fiction in present tense out of habit, but a friend who is a published novelist is encouraging me to write in past tense to make myself more publishable (I'm working on a genre piece).

Collapse )

1) Do you prefer to read in past or present tense?

2) If you answered "past", would present tense alone dissuade you from reading a book?

You are renting a room in a house from August 20th- January 20th. You arrive August 20th at 9pm, after a 12 hour day of travelling. Your landlord/housemate picks you up. You are exhausted and go to bed 1-2 hours after arriving. When do you give your rent money to your landlord?

Have you ever taken an online class that was primarily discussion based?  I'm taking an ethics class online and the majority of grades come from discussions.  Does it work like LJ?  Where someone posts something and then people can reply to it?

What class was it that you took and how did you like it?  How did you do overall?

Are there any interests you have that nobody else seems to share, or at least those people are difficult to come by?

In regards to Kickstarter: If you donate, is there any way to know people actually used the money you gave to them for the project they list? If they earn more than their goal, can they just keep the extra as profit/fun money?

Disney Parks and Islands of Adventure!

Hey TQC!

I'm heading down to Disney World/Islands of Adventure in just over two weeks. I've not been there in a number of years so I'm really looking forward to it. Can someone help me with some questions?

1) I'm going with my best friend, her Mom, Aunt and cousin. We are trying to do this trip relatively on the cheap, so we've purchased 3-day base tickets for Disney without the park hopping option. My best friend thought this would be cost effective, but a) there's five of us and I can foresee some bummed people if we choose a park they'd rather not visit since we can only do one park per day. If it were solely up to me, I would have purchased park hoppers so that we can all see what we want. b) It's my bff's Mom's first Disney trip EVER and she's marked things she wants to see/do at each park. We do have the option to add the hopper to our ticket once we get there for just over $50, but I've not brought up the idea yet because I'm doubting everyone would want to. Not everyone NEEDS to either, but most likely, we'll all be together at the parks, so in this situation it's kind of all or none. I'm fine with just the 3-day, but how would you suggest I bring it up as an option? I don't want to sound like I'm making it all about me.

2) Those who HAVE been to Disney lately, worth it to park hop? If it were up to me, I'd spend a day at MK, one at Animal Kingdom since I was last in Disney before it opened and the other at Hollywood Studios and/or Epcot, but Epcot is really not my most favourite, but of course I need to see what everyone else choices are. WWYD TQC? I'm more or less trying to think of my bff's Mom here, who has never seen Disney so I kind of want to see it all for her sake.

3) Concerning IoA, our main reason for the actual trip is to do Wizarding World. Because of this, we're only doing just the one park because it's all we really care about. I know about the insane lines for the shops and Forbidden Journey, but let's pretend we see all we want and are done by like... 2pm. Is there enough to see/do at IoA besides Wizarding World that would fill the rest of our day? I've also never been to IoA before. They were actually building it last time I was at Universal.

Also, it might need to be noted that my bff just kind of took it upon herself to tell us what tickets to get. I was the only one she really consulted with, and I briefly mentioned park hopping, but she kind of blew off the idea because of the added expense. I'm not sure she truly realizes how advantageous it might be considering her Mom's never been and she wants to see everything.
