text - something to say

stress and stress crying

How do you manage stress?

Since I got to college I'm stressed all the time. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I can't relax if I have something productive I could be doing, and I always have something I could be doing for school. And I'm really bad at dealing with my stress. While I have noticed that getting loads of sleep (and I'm talking like eleven hour marathons) helps, my go-to method is to try to ignore the stress and keep pushing through until I have a meltdown. Some of the most spectacular episodes involved having a meltdown in a prof's office while they're all "IT OKAY. DON'T BE CRY."

Which brings me to my next question: Are you a stress crier?

Are you the kind of person that, when you find a movie or TV show you reeeally like, you enjoy rewatching it - or do you usually like to see things once?

I like to rewatch movies and shows that I really love
I don't tend to like watching things I've already seen
Other (post in comments?)

I've noticed that a lot of my friends get nothing out of watching a movie for a second time. "I already know what's going to happen, so what's the point?" That's generally the feeling that they have. However, a couple of my friends and myself can watch movies that we love multiple times and get something out of it every time.

I haven't been able to explain what the personality(?)/thought-process-difference(?) is when it comes to people who can only be entertained by a movie once, and the people that can see it enough to memorize it and still be entertained. Do you have any particular understanding of how to explain it? (I had a friend ask me yesterday why I might rewatch anything. And I'm looking for something more specific than "because I like it". I'm really curious as to the psychological reasons why some people continue to be entertained and others do not.)

Does anybody know how to reclaim the "other" space on iPhone? It's taking up 4GB's of space on my iPhone. I've tried a restore, deleting all my music/photos/apps, and even then, the other didn't budge. So annnnnoyyying. Ugh.

If you discovered a stranger's dead body, would you scream? Would it be different if it were the body of someone you knew? Would the extent of decay make a difference in whether you screamed or didn't scream?

Have you ever realized you have some norm to follow but didn't know it until someone failed to follow it?

I didn't realize that at my parents' house, you showed enthusiasm/appreciation for someone's cooking by getting to the dinner table at the same time or before the food. I didn't even realize that was a thing at my childhood home until I started cooking for my husband and he took his time getting to the table.

I worded that question awkwardly.

My boyfriend got a $25 prepaid visa from work for selling extra stuff, and he gave it to me with explicit instructions that I MUST spend it on something fun for myself. I was going to just put it in the bank, but you can't do ATM stuff on this card, so that's out. And so I decided I was going to groceries but my boyfriend said he was going grocery shopping after work tonight, so...

It expires soon, so I have to use it or lose it.

Wtf should I do with this? Wtf would you do with this?

Edit for an unrelated question: Do any of you guys play Skyrim? I don't know anyone who does, so I have no one to talk to about it. :(

Baby Shower

Does anyone have suggestions for interesting things to do at a baby shower? Not the traditional kind of "blindfolded diaper change" or "guess the size of the stomach" thing, but something more, I don't know, productive?

I have a neighbor that I'm mildly attracted to. He has been trying to talk to me for months now, and I've been unintentionally ignoring him. Yesterday he was on his way home and he saw me walking to school. So the next thing I know, he makes a u-turn and offers to give me a ride to school.

Here's the kicker - I totally forgot his name.

Does it make me look like a dumbass stalker if I go to his apartment and ask him his name? I'm not usually crappy with names, but in fairness I literally haven't seen his face since shortly after I moved into the building.

DK/DC/Yes it makes you a stalker: I have to finish this project for my Plated Desserts class. We have to create a dessert menu for our imaginary restaurant. How does this menu sound?

i need life advice

TQC, will you tell me what you did after you graduated from college?
I will graduate in May and all of my post-grad plans are falling through. I don't have a job, a car, or definite grad school plans, I have no money, and I have a year-long lease on a house with my BF. It starts in May, so I will be spending at least one more full year in my rural college town. I don't know what to do with myself-- and I already feel like all of my friends are pulling away from me. If it doesn't get better, I don't know how I'm going to make it another year here. My BF is amazing, but he's pretty much the only bright spot I can see in my future. :( Can you offer any advice?

Also: do you have trouble relating to people?
I feel really worthless and unwanted lately, and my friends aren't helping-- they almost always decline my offers of hanging out, and on the rare occasion that I do get to go out with people, I feel ignored in the group. I don't know if it's a problem with my perception or if they're actually ignoring me to some degree, but it's just really hard to be around people lately. Everyone is busy and excited for post-grad and I feel like I'm stuck in the mud and invisible. Have you ever been in this type of situation? Is there anything I can do?

Renaming a brand-new journal seems dumb

A friend of mine tried to sign up for an lj membership. On the sign-up page, the user name she wanted returned the notice "this name belongs to a journal that has been deleted and purged. You can rename your own journal to this name..." (or words to that effect).

She doesn't HAVE a journal yet, that was the point of her trying to sign up! Is there any way she can get the name she wants, other than the roundabout way of making up some other user name and then renaming the brand-new name? We checked the FAQ and they don't seem to address this question. Tips/instructions would be appreciated muchly!

To the people that know and care about goldfish...

My mom's 10 year old gold fish appears to be dying. Being that we've had the fish for so long, it's hard to believe. But I was wondering if there's....a way to tell if she actually is dying or is just sick. She's been sitting in the same corner all day, definitely still alive & breathing, but just kind of...hovering there, sideways. I am a huge huge huge animal lover and I'm happy that we got the fish to live this long, but I guess it upsets me if it could be in pain right now? Or that it's going through such a long process of dying? Is there anything I can do? I feel really silly asking, but, whatever.

My cribbage league is having a tournament on March 31st, and I'd like to make some sort of dessert bars or cookies to bring to the tournament. Do you have any favorite recipes you can share with me?

Can someone tell me the secret to easy to peel hard boiled eggs?
I do the same thing every time, and sometimes they peel real easy and other times no so much.

Any other kitchen/cooking tips or tricks you'd like to share?
