I have found a place to donate all of the excess veggies from my garden! Their website lists things they need and it includes cereal. If I donate unhealthy cereal (Cookie Crisp specifically, I can get two boxes completely free at the grocery store I'm going to in the morning) am I going to get the side-eye? I'm kind of nervous that they are going to be secretly judging me or something.

I won't be giving them just Cookie Crisp, there will be fresh squash, tomatoes, crackers, and a few other healthier cereals. This is a totally irrational worry right?

If you're alone in the house, do you leave the TV/music on while you take a shower?

I do, and when my SO learned this he laughed at me a little bit. I guess I'm looking for validation.

DK/DC/Don't take showers: Wanna brag about something? (I'm kicking butt and taking names on my latest 5K training! Think I'll beat my personal best in September.)

spending all my $

Hey guys,

What are your best day-to-day tips and habits to stop spending money frivolously?

I already know my budget and stuff.. but I need help with not buying a $3 latte every day, bringing lunch to work instead of buying it (buying lunch is like $7 a day), etc. I guess my problem is that I don't *Need* to stop these frivolous spending habits because my paycheck covers it all but I want to start saving money more! How do you guys do it?

Also, don't you think that our (USA) culture has largely shifted to almost always eating out rather than almost always making dinner at home/packing lunch for work? Why do you think this is? Do you like it or not like it?

11:30am isn't too early for Steak N' Shake, right? I woke up with a huge craving for it and it's pretty much all I can think about right now lol.

What are your favorite Disney/Pixar movies?
I'm about to watch Finding Nemo :) (once I get home with my Steak N' Shake, that is)

Are you a good faller?

About 10 years ago I was in an automobile accident.  I rolled my car 4 times and came out with only a seat belt bruise and a torn left ACL.  I spent months in physical therapy both before and after surgery.  In the meantime, I really learned how to fall and not get hurt.

Just now I absent-mindedly managed to fall off my deck (about 2 feet).  I realized I was going down and not to fight it.  There I was, laying on the ground and my daughter is asking me if I'm OK.  "Yeah, I'm fine.  I rolled."  You know, that's a nice skill to have.
Belly rubbin'

Possibly TL;DR? Lack of sleep has made me extra dumb and rambly.

I have been having increasingly worsening insomnia this week (takes me hours to fall asleep) and last night I couldn't fall asleep at all. I've been awake for over 24 hours now and I'm exhausted, but I still can't seem to fall asleep. Weeks like this one have been happening more often over the last few months and I can't take it anymore. Can anyone here recommend me a good natural and non-addictive OTC sleep-aid?

I did do some research so I do know at least some of what is out there (like Nature Made Sleep and Alteril), but I figure that there must be at least a few people here who have had similar issues and can recommend something from first hand experience. I don't know if this makes a difference to recommendations, but my biggest problem seems to be that I can't shut my brain up long enough to get to sleep. I also have a tendency to wake up every two or three hours (usually it's just for a minute or two).

So, there's a house in my neighborhood that annoys me for some reason. They always park their cars on their front lawn. They have a nice, long drive way, and what looks like a garage, but they park on their lawn. Now, they seem to have an older lady living there, and there's a ramp out of the front door for her, so I can understand driving up to it to let her get in, but most of the time, it's just them pulling into the front yard and going in the house, without gramma. And every time I drive by and see one of their cars in the yard, I get so irritated.

Is this irrational? I mean, I know it's really none of my business, but it makes the whole neighborhood look kinda tacky, and we're a decently old, nice neighborhood. But would it irritate you too?

I wanted to edit this and point out that this is the type of neighborhood that were I to not mow my lawn for an extended period of time, I'd probably have the cops called on me and I'd receive a citation for it. No kidding.

Cake Emergency!

It's my boyfriend's birthday on Monday and tomorrow I want to make him a cake. He's coming back to Australia.
I want to make him a mocha cake, which has brown icing. Since the icing has coffee and chocolate in it, I don't think I can change its colour.

I want to decorate the cake. Originally I was all 'oo I could have blue icing, and put white clouds on it and draw a plane!' since he loves travel.
But then I realised the icing problem.

So. How should I decorate it? I'm a beginner and I can't do fondant at this point, nor do I know where to buy any to give it a try. (I'm Australian if you know of somewhere).
He loves travel, jazz, sci fi, music, guitars... or I could just decorate it in some sort of awesome way that's not themed.

Halp.
What should I do? Or should I change the cake flavour?

have you ever been treated for an ingrown toenail? like where they take part of the nail plate off? i went to the podiatrist today and said that's what i need because my nail is wonky. i'm excited to get it done because this f*ing toenail is such a chronic problem, but today when he cut my nail he didn't give me any anesthetic and it kind of hurt. was the healing part a nightmare? i hear it gets pretty gross.

what are your favorite blogs? do you read any style blogs? i found theglamourai a little while ago and wish i could find more like that. with lots of pretty stuff.

Can you let your music play pick 3 random tracks and then add "...in you pants" to the end of the title and post the results?

TQC, I'm driving from Tucson to San Diego right now and we just crossed through Yuma and into California, and this question popped into my head:

Have you ever lived on the border of a time zone? Was it weird?

Dk/dc: Do you like roadtrips?

I love them! Husband (who is driving) is less enthusiastic about them and it cramps my style.

When you were young and mechanical pencils were popular in school, did you have them?

I had a few, but I preferred normal pencils. I never saw the need for a mechanical one. Kids were always losing lead, getting the lead stuck in the pencil, and having the pencils themselves break on them. I also got sick of tired of being asked for lead, especially since most of the time I used a normal pencil.

I can see why some teachers banned the damn things.

Lets say you're looking at someone's Tumblr. I can only see a select number of posts on the first page of their Tumblr, and can't go back and see older posts. Is there a way to see older things, or does it depend on how that person sets up their Tumblr? Or maybe that's all the posts they have? Idk, is there a way to tell? I don't use Tumblr, please forgive me.

TQC I FOUND THE PERFECT PAIR OF HEELS

Unfortunately they are a half size too big. I tried an insert that ran the entire length of the shoe, which made them actually stay on my feet but made my toes feel really cramped and uncomfortable. Is there another way I could make them fit or should I just give up, return them and continue the search for shoes?

I really want to wear some patent pumps tonight, but they make farting noises every time I take a step. Is there anything I can do about this? I've looked up tips on getting shoes to stop squeaking, but it's hard to tell what would work without trying it, and I only have two hours.

An invitation?

A bit of a back story:

For the past two years I've been invited to attend a festival in a small town where some people I know have a grandparent residing. This year I was asked if I knew the date of the festival and acknowledged that I did know the date, and that was the extent of the conversation. Now these people have a tendency of sometimes being direct and other times they're not so direct in what they mean to say and expect you to know what they mean.

I don't really want to ask them this for fear of being ridiculed by them for not knowing what they meant?

Would you consider them asking me if I knew the date of the festival an invite to join them or they're just being weird and don't really want me to go?

Trying to word that question without using the "r word"...hope it makes sense.

Inspired by the post below, if you see a tattoo or piercing on an individual, are you more likely to assume they are over 18?

Speaking of tattoos: If you have one, how long did yours hurt? Where is it on your body?

Can anyone compare and contrast chavs and bogans for me? I am having difficulty clarifying this with someone from the UK.

If you do not have either of these, what is your region's equivalent?

I recently have moved to the US/canada border and therefore have been driving and exploring in the US a lot. Recently I've noticed on multiple trips to/through minnesota that most drivers hang out and chill in the left passing lane and then move over to the right when they see someone who comes and wants to pass... then they move back over into the left lane. Is this a thing or is it just coincidence? are you from minnesota? do you do this? why?

what have you noticed that is state specific regarding drivers? i know that in any big city all you hear is horns... but new york city drives me crazy because it's just a horn blowing shit show.

Corsets

Has anyone done waist-training with a corset?
How do you wear a bra?

How do you clean your corsets?

Does anyone know of any corset makers that make tight-lacing corsets with kind of built-in bras that support rather than squish?

Will you post pretty pictures of corsets?

Where was the last place you went with your SO or best friend?

Yesterday, we went to my friend's wedding, then met up with my other friends to go shopping and eat.

What are you going to do tonight?

Wait for my friend to get off work here in about 20min, then we're going two towns over for a drive and for taco bell :)

Today I was introduced to no less than three websites that sell one specific t-shirt design for twenty-four hours and then either retire it completely, or sell it at a drastically raised price. I've never heard of this before. Is this a brand new trend, TQC, or have I been living under a rock? What websites do you know of that do this?

Also, in what room do you generally use the computer?

Also also, were you the kid/are you the adult who liked/likes shopping for back to school supplies? Do fresh notebooks and brand new pens fill you with the belief you can conquer the world?

So I am trying to find a place to live in a new town where I'm moving for a job. I can, in theory, afford my own apartment, but I'm trying to see if I can save some money by moving into a shared housing situation.

There is an apartment complex that mostly caters to students at a local college, but anyone can rent from them. They have nothing but four bedroom apartments at this complex. I would get my own private room and bathroom, fully furnished. It's about three blocks away from where I work. There's indoor parking, all the utilities are included (and no overages), washer and dryer in the apartment, and the rent is so within my budget it's mind boggling.

The thing is, I will have no idea who my roommates are. The apartment complex will place people into the other rooms in my apartment as they apply. Most of them will probably be students. They say I can come into their office to fill out a compatibility form, but it's no guarantee that I'll end up with three other roommates who will get along with me.

What would you do in this situation, TQC? Rent this almost too good to be true room with a pretty significant catch, or find your own place?
