Phlegm Issue [Jul. 8th, 2007|12:29 am]
The Question Club
thequestionclub
[unusualtaste]
For a little more than a week, my throat has been feeling as if mucous was clogging it and I couldn't cough it out. What I could cough out was thin and clear. I've tried drinking copious amounts of hot tea and room temperature water, but the phlegm doesn't seem to be affected--so thus I think the phlegm is coming the area in my throat above where I've swallowed. I don't feel sick, I don't have a cough, I don't have a sore throat, and I don't have allergies (as far as I know). I've tried gargling water too, but I still can't hack it out. I've tried Googling for an answer as to what I've had, but my problem appears vague or a symptom of something else. On and off, my eardrums have been feeling a little bit tingly (like ants are crawling in them), so I'm not sure if it's a sign of an ear infection. (I've had several ear infections when I was younger and they were usually accompanied by a sore throat.)

Can anyone help me find a solution to this annoying phlegm? It doesn't keep me up all night but it is very irritating/distracting during the day. I'm going to try to see the doctor next week, but any solution to raise my comfort level for now is very welcome.

My husband and I are not big drinkers, but today we bought a bottle of Bailey's Caramel and a bottle of vodka from the ABC store today.

What are proper liquor storing procedures?
Should the vodka go in the freezer?
Will it explode? (I exploded a bottle of cheap wine in my freezer once. Thank god for Magic Erasers.)

Do you drink?
What's your favorite beer?
Shot?
Mixed drink?
How much does it take to get you tanked (or whatever is the slang nowadays)?

EDIT: Whenever I go to a bar, I ask them to just make me something delicious. Once, I got a shot that tasted like an oatmeal cookie. It had Goldschlager in it, but I don't know what else. Does anyone know what this shot is called and what it's ingredients are?

Nationalism is obnoxious enough. Sectionalism is rather stupid too. (Oh I'm from up North/ down South so I'm better than THOSE PEOPLE).

However in some areas like the Los Angeles area people dog on others about their area codes! "Oh I'm from 310 and oh you're from THAT area code? Oh you suck!"

Do you find this "us vs. them" with area codes stupid? I sure do!

Working odd shifts [Jul. 8th, 2007|04:40 am]
The Question Club

[ekesobriquet]
I have a job that I can take that may want to put me on their swing or graveyard shifts. I am hesitant partially for this reason and partially because I think there would be something better paying and better fitting to me. However, I cannot wait more than about another week for replies to my resume before I need to start earning money again so I am thinking of just going for it.

Anyway, the main shift is 11am - 7pm and is apparently fairly full. The swing shift is 7pm - 3am. The graveyard shift is 3am - 11am. Which of the two odd shifts is more livable compared to the other? Can you do good work if you go to work later in your day or does it have to be a couple hours or less after you wake up? I can survive with a limited social life but I'd like to be able to find women I could date and do so while working there. I normally like to go to bed between 1am and 2am to feel best overall. So let me know about those two questions and give any other personal insight.

I'm not goth, but I tend to wear a lot of things that one could consider in that general style. That sort of thing.

I have to dress business casual at work. What brands offer business-friendly clothing that I would actually LIKE?

On thursday, a red sore appeared on the inside of my bottom lip. It is very close to the outside of my lip and is almost visible when i have my mouth closed. Now it has white dots all over it and looks like a bunch of small canker sores. On friday a smaller one appeared on my upper lip.  I have never given oral sex and my boyfriend doesn't have anything like that on his mouth, so i don't think its std related.  The only thing that was out of the ordinary was that I went out to eat on thursday, but I don't know if that caused it or not.  I'm afraid to show my mom because she will freak out, because it looks really bad.

Any suggestions to what it is? I know they will heal eventually, but they're really painful.
Also, I'm seeing my boyfriend tomorrow.  Should I refrain from kissing him?

So, as a 29 year old woman, how would I go about seducing a 26 year old man who I am fairly certain is a virgin?

Not going to do it any time soon, but a girl needs to plan, ya know?

Getting him drunk is definitely an option, as we do that fairly regularly at his house when playing games/watching movies.

you know how window air conditioners are almost always made for windows that open up and down? i have casement windows that open sideways, like most people seem to on the west coast.

i know they make ACs especially for this, but there are fewer of them and so they're more powerful and expensive. i just need one that will cool one large room. does anyone know if they make regular window ACs where the sliders made to fill the window will go up instead of sideways? if not, anyone know of a cheap AC for casement windows?

Let's play pretend.
Say your community pool is just down the street from your home. You are going to go swimming (not just hang out on the deck).
Would you:
a) wear your street clothes and change into your bathing suit at the pool
b) just swim in your street clothes
c) put on your suit at home, but put on shorts/skirt and a shirt
d) put on your suit and just shorts/skirt
e) just put on your suit and walk to the pool

Does your answer change if you normally wear a one piece and switch to a two piece or vice versa?

What age are you?

My psuedo boyfriend is driving 2 hours to come see me so that he can give me my birthday present (my birthday was May 12) that was apparently just finished. I have no idea what it could be, but he has asked me random questions like:

How strong are you?
Are you allergic to anything?
Exactly how tall are you?

And a few others I can't remember. He is so excited to give it to me that he is driving a good distance to give it to me RIGHT NOW. So my question is,

What do you think this gift could be??

(I hinted to him that I wanted a towel type thing that had a hood on it with a duck like little kids have, but I have no idea.)

1) I'm sure most of you are familiar with the practice of surrounding words with "~**~" to insult people. You know, saying something like ~*speshul snowflakes*~. But what I don't get is when people insult someone by saying they're ~*edgy*~. Isn't the whole "~**~" thing an attempt at edgy humor?

2) You know that Wendy's commercial where everyone is out in the woods kicking trees, and the guy in the Wendy wig yells "HOT JUICY BURGER!" What is that all about, anyway? Why are they kicking trees? Is there some joke I'm not getting here?

So my husband and I want to buy a condo. Where we live, a house is out of the question.

Do you own your own home/condo/townhouse/cardboard box you live in?

How did you pick it out?

Did you have buyer's remorse?

Did you have to settle on some things you wanted? (like, less space to save money or get a better location).

Any random advice?

(non-serious answers welcome, but I do like serious ones too since I'm getting all flustered about this. We found a place I like, for a GREAT price, but it's smaller than what I wanted...)

[music |Umphrey's McGee]

When you listen to new music -- that is, music you have never heard before (and let's be hypothetical and assume it doesn't sound like something you have already heard) -- what are the first things you listen to, in order?

Example (this would be me):

1) Rhythm
2) Tone of Guitar(s) [if applicable]
3) Musical style (jazz, samba, rock, classical,....?)
3) The groove (different from the rhythm!)
4) Talent of the instrumentalists
5) The chord changes in the song / BASS
6) How the musicians interact musically / the Balance.
7) The emotion in the music [if applicable..]
8) Vocals / words
9) Lastly would probably be the 'equalization'

Answer this however you'd like; surely we all experience music differently so there's no real right or wrong answers here!

Do any of you have siblings a fair number of years older than you?

My oldest brother is, and no, I am not joking, 25 years older than me.
My other brother is 23 years older than me.
I should add they are my half-brothers from my father's first marriage, and my parents are older parents.

I do not think of my oldest brother as my "half-brother" at all, really. I lived with him for a period of about 8 months a couple of years ago. He's always shown me unconditional love, and supported me when I needed it.
I do think of my other brother as a half-brother, though. Mainly for the fact that when I see him, which is only about 2-4 times a year, we do not say more than two words to each other.

For the record, I'm totally in charge of running the dishwasher and putting the dishes away.

This might be awkwardly phrased but oh well...

Say you're working for $8 an hour, 40 hours a week. This is in Ontario, Canada, so feel free to apply it to your own wage experiences etc. and change the "hypothetical" wage. That's $320 a week, BUT I know there's a ton of deductions that happen to that amount before you get it.

What would you say to your S/O who pitched a fit over having to go to the store to get a bag of ice? Keep in mind said store is 1/2 mile away at most. MOST. And said bag of ice weighs 3-5 pounds.

The only reason we even needed it, is because someone didn't seal the freezer door all the way so there was a huge chunk of melted-and-refrozen shit in the bottom of the ice bin. It takes it 24+ hours to fill up again, and I emptied it around 11 or 12.

My actual situation.... [Jul. 8th, 2007|07:38 pm]

[urmotherisemo]
A brief bit of history first... My sister and I are nine years apart and not very much like sisters, by the time she was eight I didn't even live at home.  I was semi-spoiled as a child and she was too until, after I moved out.  Her parents separated when she was about 10 leaving her with her mom and less than half the money in the house (father plays no role and provides no money), but half the people as well.  My mom then lost her job working for the county and ended up working for $5.80 part time.  Without going in to many details more, for the past four years they have been scraping by and I have been paying for and buying my sister anything she needs... I take her school clothes shopping, I bought her a new computer, I put her on my cell plan, etc. etc.  I get her all the crap that I wanted when I was her age.  Well, now she is starting high school and I offered to take her and a friend (but I did draw the line a BOY fiend) where ever she wanted on spring break and she is putting me off about it.

My question is, do you think she is just at the age where she is TOO cool to go with an older sister somewhere like that?

Or could it be she feels weird about the money I am spending, or maybe just something else?

I burned the palm of my hand on a pan when I was removing it from the oven. I immediately put ice on it, then realized ice was too cold and put it against various frozen vegetables for the past 30 minutes. It hurts a lot, but a lot less when it's touching something frozen. I just looked up what to do, because I started worrying more about how much it hurts, and sites are saying DO NOT use ice because that will cause it to frostbite (though that hasn't happened because the frozen things are not that cold). I can't find anything else useful because they're saying just let it heal.

(It took me forever to write this because I kept trying to type with one hand, type while holding a frozen burrito, type without touching anything cold which I can only do for a few seconds before it becomes unbearable, etc).

What should I do?

What is the longest you have ever been on the phone? (straight through, no call waiting or "let me call you back in two seconds") Who were you talking to, how old were you, and tell me something you were talking about.

- My boyfriend at the time, I was 17 and we talked from when I got off work that night at 11pm until 6am when I had to "get up" for school. 7 hours. We literally talked about everything...from our families to music to what he would do if he had boobs for a day, haha.

What are some cute/fun baby shower ideas? Anything from games, to food to...whatever goes on at a baby shower, ha.

- I've never been to one and my BFFL is having one in a few weeks.

And lastly, does anyone have a good smoothie recipe or tricks to actually give smoothies good texture and flavor while still being healthy? All of mine come out with a crushed ice-texture, and they just taste like mushed fruit and they're kinda bitter. If anyone has ever had a smoothie from Frulati, that's kind of what I'm going for.

Thanks kids.

Obviously depending on what they did versus an adult killer but in my opinion yeah...it makes it creepier, more so if they are completely insane (i.e. Mary Bell).
