[_imnotcrazy_]
Sooo tonight I was arguing (and it was a very heated argument) with with my man-whore friend about this.

Basically, his last three girlfriends cheated on him with many many other guys, and they called the police on this guy lying and saying that he robbed people, and that he beat his girlfriends.  He's now on probation for six years.

But we ended up talking about whether or not girls necessarily "want" more male sexual partners.  He said that girls do, regardless of emotion, and I told him, no, that's not true, it's more likely that guy will manipulate a girl to get sex.

But then I reminded him, well, the last few girlfriends you had weren't exactly the best choice, considering they cheated on him and put him in jail for things he didn't do.  Then he told me I have "no frame of reference."  He also said that girls don't want to be looked at as sluts, and that's why they won't have sex with everyone (but he wouldn't give a reason why a girl wouldn't want to be looked at as a slut--personally, I wouldn't want to be looked at as a slut because it gives you a shit reputation, and because there's emotion involved, and the fact that it's not expected for girls to want more than a few partners in their lifetime)

So--I'm a GIRL.  I know that personally, when it comes to sex, there's emotion involved on the female side.  He disagreed, because he said "I've had REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES (he's 20) AND THEREFORE I KNOW HOW WOMEN THINK."  And he's said that he knows more girls who will manipulate guys to have sex.

So to the questions (for girls, mostly)

1) For girls. if you're offered the oppurtunity to have sex, and you want to have sex with them anyway, would you do it on a whim?
2) Let's say you wouldn't have sex with someone because you didn't want to be looked at as a slut.  Why, specifically (besides obvious reasons) wouldn't you want to be looked at as a slut?
3) For girls or guys: Is there emotion involved with sex? Would you rather have sex with, and be in a trusting relationship with someone? Girls: Have you/would you manipulate a guy just for sex, or do you think it's more likely for a guy to manipulate you for sex?

In the club on Saturday night, I heard this song playing and it's been stuck in my head since. It's a reggaeton song and although I don't speak Spanish, the verse sounds like they keep repeating "pom, pom, pom, [inaudible spanish], pom, pom, pom]...

I've tried looking for lyrics that sound right, downloading random songs and still, no luck. Does anyone know the name of this song? I thank you all in advance :D

I want to improve my writing STYLE.* I was told one way to do that was to read authors with very unique/strong styles. So my question is this...

Can anyone recommend a book/author that has a unique/strong Style?

Preferably, something angsty/drama or high-action.

Also, if someone has any other ideas on how to improve their writing style, please let me know.

[uberash]
There are a few people I work with, namely two older women who clearly don't need their jobs - to the point where they say they don't need the jobs and don't have to work, could live off their husbands etc. These women are the office busy bodies and constantly gabber and ask questions.

There is a shared office space I have to go to get information. Whenever I walk into the room I get assaulted with pesky little questions directed at me that if I don't answer I seem rude. However, the questions are stupid - how's your apartment coming along? Dating life(sore subject)? oh what's that (about any paper I'm holding or question I'm not asking this woman)oh whatcha eating? Then a small follow up question like oh where'd you get that from, who's it for? etc etc etc...condescending tone.

I'm getting really sick of not being able to walk into this room without having to answer non work related questions. Sometimes when I respond the woman doesn't even listen to the response or starts talking to someone else mid response. Its rude and incensere.

So my question, how do I politely deflect these questions and not answer?
Any ideas for ways to respond (specific wordings as I'm bad with this) or get the point across that I'm not interested in this dialogue would be appreciated. Non serious answers would be great too.
Thanks

52(52.0%)
Vincent Gallo
7(7.0%)
John Travolta

A happy ending. Everybody lives happily ever after and Voldemort is vanquished. Everybody eats ice cream
26(25.7%)
Tragic ending. Someone or two or three characters die
26(25.7%)
Cliffhanger, which might leave door open for a follow-up book someday
1(1.0%)
Cynical ending, that illustrates the nature of consequences that occur with our choices
25(24.8%)
One where Harry wakes up, and all the magic stuff was a dream. Harry's really a 49-yr old mechanic living in Queens, and he goes back to his unfulfilling job but somewhat cheered by 'a good dream'
23(22.8%)

Daniel Radcliffe was going to be in Equus, the kinky horsey play. He may have been onto something. Would some ponylove have made Harry Potter a more developed character?

Yes. It would certainly explain a lot about him

Yes, because ponylove makes every story better. War of the Worlds could have used some

No. No way. Harry's clearly into sheep
47(46.5%)

What do you think of the funamentalists who think that Harry Potter is a gateway vehicle to witchcraft?

They have a point. The characters do practice magic, and not once do the characters read the bible

60(59.4%)
I became a witch after reading Rowling's books. It could be true
3(3.0%)
No way, but Artemis Fowl is a gateway vehicle to criminal acts

Has anyone gotten an endometrial lining cryoablation procedure done? I bleed out every month because of fibroids and besides the millions of dollars spent on white owls tampons every month

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I have severe anemia and the doctor has recommended this procedure instead of ripping my blood bag uterus out. I hadn't heard of it before and although I have since read many studies on it, I am looking for first hand experience with it - pain level, recovery and results. Please tell me that you know what I am talking about - if not, here:

Cryoablation uses sub-zero temperatures to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual periods. The cold temperatures destroy the uterine lining, which is responsible for menstrual bleeding.

So I read in Seventeen or Cosmopolitan or one of those magazines that the average woman kisses 32 (or was it 23?) men before she gets married. Now, even though beauty mags may not be well researched, I think they would put special emphasis on stupid stats like these, and it really suprises me, because I think (I'm in college) the average sorority girl would kiss a few guys a weekend, and that would add up pretty quickly during the year, and she would have years to go before she gets married.

So, to do a little bit of research of my own, consider this a free response survey: (for women, but men may participate if feeling left out...it may skew the results though).

1) How old are you?

2) How many men have you kissed?

3) How many men have you slept with?

Right now, CNN is reporting that a former teacher took the shooter's English class writings, including a one act play, to the police because she felt he was a threat due to the violence contained in it.

This makes me wonder, what would she have done with Stephen King's writings? Quentin Taratino's first screenplay? Would you be afraid to accept a ride from either of these two now? What type of crimes do you thinki they'd be most likely to commit?

What type of creative freedom should artists or student artists have? Should they censor what they say out of fear they may be reported to the police as a potential violent offender? Should we be arresting people based on their potential to become a criminal?

PS: Are you going to Puerto Rico? To Old San Juan? I want a postcard from there, and I'll give a reward if you can get it to me.

I've decided on getting a MacBook. I was going to wait until the Leopard OS came out, however, they now are saying it won't be released until October 2007, when they previously said Spring 2007. I've decided on the 2.0Ghz and upgrading to 2GB of RAM and possibly a 120G or 160G hard drive.

I have a few questions though ...

1) Is their a big difference between the white and black cases? If you have a white one, does it stain easily?

2) Do I need to purchase anything in order to have the internet work in "hotspots" like on campuses or at coffe shops?

3) What wireless router do you recommend? I have a PC at home. Is the Airport Extreme worth it?

4) Is buying from Apple directly my best bet or should I look into MacWorld, etc? Do you have any experience with retailers? Is so, which one(s)?

5) What about the Pro series? Is it really that much better?

Thanks for any answers guys, I'm not all too familiar with MACS, so any other information would be great too!

[dragonjaze]
I normally hate posts that ask for help finding a song, movie, lost granny, etc. but I am seriously at the end of my resources here. So I humbly bring myself before the greatness that is TQC and ask for help.

In the summer of 2001, I heard a song on the radio that caused me to have to pull over because I was crying so hard.  I have never heard it since. It was played on a rock station, either from Seattle WA or Vancouver, BC.

The song was about suicide, and the parts of life that people will end up missing.  It is memorable mostly because it wasn't "sung" but was more of a spoken song with strong music background. As far as I remember, the singer was male.

Does ANYONE know what I am talking about?  No, it wasn't Adam's song.

I have searched here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_about_suicide but nothing is ringing a bell.

Help?

EDIT: I think I may have found it: "Suicide" by Bobby Gaylor.  Unfortunately, Limewire doesn't have it. Does anyone know where I could find a copy of it?

Edit 2: Yep, that was it!  Stupid song still made me cry...

Thanks for the help!

This is not here to start a debate. I just have some relatively basic questions but I am getting confused!

1) Don Imus was a radio show host. But what shows did he actually host and on what stations? MSNBC and CBS?

2) What was said that people got offended about (again not for debate) was calling a basketball team "nappy headed ho"s right? What basketball team got called it?

3) Who are his most vocal critics?

4) Has he said controversial things before? If so what and when?

5) Where is the case now? Last I knew for sure he was suspended. Has his show been cancelled and him still under contract? Or did they end his contract completely? Anything else?

6) Cal Ripken is involved only because he refused to appear on Imus's show right?

I know i should know this but I am getting confused.

I am in dire need of an online hosting site that will let me upload any type of file (mostly just videos) and keep it there without having it expire or delete after a certain time. Not like youtube or photobucket. I want it so that I can redownload it in its original format. Please tell me something like that exists?

Oh and it'd be nice if it was free.

Thanks!

Why do so many people like watching girls beating the crap out of eachother in public? There are like a million videos of that crap on YouTube.

When you go into a bar, say if you're single and you're trying to pick somebody up you'd think, oh you do it just on the basis of attractiveness or personality but actually you do it to a far greater extent on the basis of intelligence - especially verbal intelligence, more than any other characteristic and tremendously more than they do by height or weight or even physical attractiveness as best as we can measure it.

And it's the intelligence, especially the verbal aspects of it because obviously you don't know how good someone is at spatial things or memory but you do know how verbally fluent they are, what sort of level of vocabulary they have and you judge the concepts that they're talking about.

If you are, you know, looking for a mate - what do you talk about in the morning sort of thing and what do you talk about when you#re with someone for the rest of your life, you know, you do need to talk about things. You know, unlike beauty when you think you are looking for the most beautiful person, with intelligence you really are looking for someone about your level of intelligence because that's what you need to have good communication.

Do you agree with what this guy says?

I work outside, and to top it off, I work outside, sailing a boat.

I'm looking for a couple pairs of womens' (or well-fitting mens') long underwear tops and bottoms. What brands/types would you recommend for pretty cold, probably wet, weather?

Secondly, if you answered the firast question, what do you call them? Long Johns, long underwear, or something else? Is it a regional thing to call them one title or another?

I just found out my buddy Derek will be home at the end of next week. He is in the Marines and has been stationed in Japan for like, the last 2 years.

So...what would be a good "Welcome Home" present for him? I figured I'd get some booze, send the kid to the sitter, and he, me, and my husband could sit around, get shitfaced, and play Halo all night. (That's what we used to do before he left).

I want to get him something besides throwing a mini party, but I don't know what he would like. He's only going to be home for 3 weeks, which sucks. I won't get to spend that much time with him because he has to fit all his other friends in....

This totally makes my crappy day better.

Anyone else get any good news recently?

what happens if you don't file your taxes by today?

the turbotax site isn't letting me complete the e-filing due to a high traffic volume and it's too late to print the extension application or paper file them and get them postmarked today.  is there a late fee?  instant audit?  nothing at all?

I don't know who wrote it, but it was about how if you really want a girl to go buck wild and kinky, find a 'normal' one, since hot girls know they can have whoever they want. It's not that song about

"If you want to be happy for the rest of your life....make an ugly woman your wife.."

It had a video, of a girl singing, and this guy trying to pick up the hot chick while she observed.

I was trying to tell my fiancee about it, but I couldn't remember specifics, except it came out in the last ten years, I think.

I have only recently stumbled upon the world of LJ friends. Up until about 2 months or so, I only had people I knew in person on my friends list. But people have become too cool for LJ and rarely update. I feel deprived. I still like hearing about peoples' lives, perspectives, yadda yadda yadda. So, uhm, *awkward wave*...

Will you be my LJ friend?

OKAY. theres this song that has a late 90s early 2000s sound that was once pretty mainstream..
its kinda melancholy but upbeat at the same time, deepish guys voice singing
and the lyrics are something like, "and if youre sad you should say something..."
and i think its related to treating someone badly.

any ideas as to what this song is!?

1. Does anyone here listen to headphones when they're falling asleep, and can recommend a pair that isn't going to kill my ears? Right now I have ones that clip on, and they always hurt really bad after about a half hour or so. I'm looking for preferably something under $50 (yay birthday money!) but a couple extra bucks for something really quality isn't too bad.

2. I have a big paper due tomorrow morning at 9AM, can anyone recommend me some good music that will help me concentrate? For some reason this paper is just not holding my attention.
