1. What would your reaction be if you discovered that unidentifiable bugs were crawling out of your messy roommates room? (later she would tell you that they were centipedes and not be so scared because "they were cold and won't leave babies or anything.")

2. What about if you were home alone, watching a movie and an unidentifiable flying object swooped under the doorway and started flying around the room? (Later told it was a bat by the super on duty when he caught it)

3. What would your reaction be if your roommates pointed out that a creature (assumed to be a mouse from the beginning) had eaten part of two loaves of bread?

4. Would your reactions vary depending on time of day? Would you be able to sleep well at night knowing that creature had been (and might possible still be) in your apartment?

5. Why do all these things like coming into my apartment?!?

Hello! I'm on study abroad in Madrid! My program assigns us to live with host families (or host moms at least, a lot of them are old divorced or widowed ladies) where we get two meals a day, and the expectation is kind of that you'll hang out with them a lot and get the whole cultural experience and a kind of home away from home. I hate my host mom. I'm thinking of moving. What do you think?

actually you don't want to read any of this, butCollapse )

So what do you think....Where would you choose? Judging from how I talked about them, which one do you think I'm leaning toward?

Oy vey but I hate decisions.

Non-grounded vs. Grounded foreign outlet adaptors. [Sep. 28th, 2006|03:20 am]
The Question Club

thequestionclub

[allicatrw]
I will be leaving to spend a year in England shortly, and I am planning on bringing my laptop (purchased within the past year, so I am certain it will be able to convert the proper voltage) and possibly other small appliances (such as a cd/clockk/radio and a small lamp).

There are only two prongs on the plug for the AC adaptor for my laptop, making me believe that it is not grounded (I'm not sure). However, on the British outlet adaptors that I have acquired, they are said to be grounded, and have openings for three prongs.

Does anyone know if my laptop will get damaged by using a grounded adaptor if it is indeed a non-grounded appliance?

Also, does anyone have any overseas travel/electricity conversion stories?

Thanks in advance!

what type of music do you want your friends/loved ones/family to hear at your funeral?
songs/music?
if you could make your funeral festive for others, would you have a theme?
if given the choice - which would rather perish from - heat or cold?
why?

karaoke enthusiasts out there? [Sep. 28th, 2006|08:34 am]
The Question Club

[donnaidh_sidhe]
So I've recently become a karaoke addict and have noticed the tendencies for karaoke bars to have many different versions of a given song, produced by different companies. I've got a few questions related to this.

1. What are the major companies that produce karaoke discs/programs/music (in English)?

2. What company do you feel gets it right the most (accurate lyrics, spot-on accompaniment)?

3. I noticed that the DJ at the bar I frequent runs the karaoke off a Windows machine. Where can I get karaoke programs and premade song files? What are good programs to make and edit karaoke files?

Also, are there any good karaoke communities on LJ?

In Pokemon Blue Version, in what area is the Day Care Center located?

Also, if I give the nanny a pokemon at Level 60 or more, with all possible natural abilities already learned, will the nanny still be able to train it to higher levels?

I just want my pokemon to get some extra levels while I'm training others at Indigo Plateau. The pokemon I will put in the Day Care are ones that already have all their natural abilities. The IGN guide has some information, but I want to make sure.

I'm planning to train them all to at least Level 60, possibly up to 100. Yeah!

Completely unrelated...

If there were a superlative poll taken in your current group of peers (like in high school yearbooks), what superlative would you be most likely to get?

I'd want to go on tour with the Indigo Girls or Arlo Guthrie for a week or something, and I'd probably get voted for best hair.

I know there is no right or wrong answer here but I just want some general ideas.

What length of time do you reckon is an appropriate length of time to take from work when  a close relative dies?

See, my Aunt was very ill and I went to see her on the Thrsuday night. I couldn't face work for the fri and sat. I said I'd be back on Tuesday (I only work part time so the days I have mentioned are the days that I was meant to work) but Tuesday morning she died. I have wed and thursday (today) off. The funeral being tomorrow when I'm meant to work (its in the afternoon so i could go in in the morning). I really don't feel like I can go to work tomorrow and am prepared to make myself go in on Saturday.

What do I do? I feel so bad for taking this time off and while I know technically there is nothing the company can do I still am a bit worried incase they flip out. My mother in law has been ringing work to explain the situation and she said that my manager sounded not very happy in the slightest.

Help! I feel so bad for not feeling like I can face work tomorrow before the funeral.

And if this makes no sense I apologise cos my head is all over the place!

Thanks

Can you guess who's who?

Poll #832354 Lord of the Rings

Congratulations! You're part of the Fellowship of the Ring. Which role do you see yourself performing?

Leadership, motivation, some but not a lot of fighting, some spellwork, more a behind the scenes, supportive member
6(13.6%)
You're courageous, and get into the thick of battle, where it's most dangerous. You're also a silent leader who presents a quiet strength, which people believe in.
2(4.5%)
You're courageous, and get into the thick of battle, where it's most dangerous, but you're the type of person who backs up your friends and doesn't take the glory. You're a loyal companion and will not let a friend down, and won't take crap from anybody
5(11.4%)
You're courageous, and a warrior on the field, though you're more of the long distance shooter type, where it's not as dangerous. You're a bit of a loner, you're fairly quiet, and you show your affection through action more than words. You're loyal
6(13.6%)
You do what is right, no matter what the price. You would sacrifice almost everything for your friends. You'd walk into hell itself to save those close to you
0(0.0%)
You're a loyal friend, who will support that friend, no matter what peril they're in. You'd follow them into hell itself to help them. You're a companion whose worth is beyond gold
7(15.9%)
You have simple needs and are prone to distractions. You love to drink, dance and party. Not truly reliable, but you step up now and then to do the right thing. You're spontaneous and adapt well
5(11.4%)
You're clever and can see the larger picture in most cases. You'll take risks to see a project done right. You're brave and fairly analytical
10(22.7%)
You're misunderstood. You take risks on behalf of others, will sacrifice your personal honor to do what you feel is right. You seek redemption, and wish to live up to the expectations placed on you
0(0.0%)
I'm not on this quest. I probably help out with a spell here or there, or I help guide or arm them. I play a small role in the final outcome
3(6.8%)
I am also not on the quest, but I will join in the fight, taking large risks against dangerous foes. My contribution plays a large role in the final outcome
0(0.0%)

What's your motivation for joining the Fellowship?

I'm highly knowledgable, moreso than anyone else, and know exactly what's at stake here, and what would happen if nobody did the right thing
7(15.9%)
You just want to save your hometown and your friends
13(29.5%)
To unite mankind, to break down barriers and bad blood and bring together all people
9(20.5%)
To help out your city by giving them a tool to vanquish evil. You'll sabotage the Fellowship to bring hope to your people
1(2.3%)
You don't want to outshone by someone you don't like
2(4.5%)
You realize that you have a unique trait that sets you apart from others, and that the Fellowship would fail if you didn't step up
8(18.2%)
To bring about the downfall of evil. You're kind of a paladin
4(9.1%)

The ring is destroyed! Good has vanquished evil! Now what do you do?

Rule over all the human cities, bringing in an era of peace and prosperity. Marry my true love
3(6.8%)
Go off on more adventures with my comrade/s
10(22.7%)
Retire to the most beautiful land imaginable. There's nothing left for me, and I will not be back this way again
5(11.4%)
Go back to my hometown/neighborhood, marry the one I love, and pick up where I left off
12(27.3%)
Go back to merry galivanting, drinking and carousing. You try and return to your life before the Fellowship
14(31.8%)

Me being the Inuyasha and Sims2 addict that I am, I've been trying to make a completely Inuyasha-themed community for my Sims. So far I've got all the characters I want except two -- Bankotsu and Jakotsu. This is mostly because I'm a perfectionist and really want my sims to look as much like the actual characters as possible, and none of the standard game content or my extensive collection of custom content seem suitable for these two. So I was wondering... do any of you know where I can find ready-made Bakotsu or Jakotsu sims to download, or at least where I can find proper or nearly-proper hair, make-up, and/or clothes for them? I've checked on Mod the Sims2 and Sims Recourse without any luck.

4. Have you ever been in a long-distance relationship? Did it work?

5. What is your favourite vegetable?

What exactly does a person with no skills, abilities, or talents do with their life?

I'm 19 and am in my second year from graduating highschool. I haven't even thought about college because I have no idea what to take in courses since I have no clue what I want to do with my life. I can't sing, play an instrument or act. I dislike sports of almost every variety. I'm really bad at math, chemistry, and english. I have no interest in the medical field and I dislike old people and children.

I can interact somewhat with people thanks to the minimum wage job I am working right now but I'm naive and shy and don't "get" things so I prefer not to interact with people. I like to cook but I don't do it often and what I usually cook is simple and I usually mess it up anyway. In senior year I thought about being in Criminology but that idea left quickly because you need chemistry to do anything with it. I type fast but don't know my way around a computer. I was really good at history in highschool but it was watered down history from old textbooks. I need a better job so I can start saving money for marriage but I have pretty much zero abilities it seems. In conclusion, I suck at life. Has anyone else been in this situation and if so, what did you do?

This e-rumor is true (I just confirmed on a google search):
Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) is doing it RIGHT!! He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination.
He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel. When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.

He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them.....this is a good one......"This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back."

He bought Newt Gingrich's lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place. You have to love this guy!!

More on the AZ Sheriff:
With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports:
About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to
their government-issued pink boxer shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks. "It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 1/2 years. "It's inhumane."

Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes... so shut your damned mouths."
