Ok now I have photography questions..

What is the difference between fine quality and standard quality, if the megapixel is the same? In the manual it says fine is low compression, and standard is high compression. What will be the difference in the pictures I take?

I am also not sure what ISO (luminous sensitivy) does and when would I set it to an high ISO or a low one?
And when would I set the saturation, contrast, and sharpness? (and what is the difference between the last two?)

Also, I am not sure when I should change the shutter speed and aperture.

[I have a sony cybershot dsc-s90 4.1 MB camera]

If anyone knows a good site talking about camera/photography facts and tips, it'll be helpful.

Sense of Self

Which would disturb your sense of self more?

A) If your ex of one month started dating someone who is the complete opposite of you -- The kind of person you would shun if you met randomly on the subway.
What would this person be like?

B) If your ex of one month started dating someone who is the ideal version of you -- The kind of person you spent years trying to be but haven't achieved, yet.
What would this person be like?

How do you feel about ex SO's being friends with your SO? (their ex, not yours)

Im in a relationship its long distance but we've established all the "love" feelings etc, and I am looking into moving there (in a year) but there's this ex. They've been broken up for awhile but they both seem to believe they can be friends...they had a rocky 2 year on again off again relationship and she still wants to/believes they will get back together and has sent me many emails trying to get me out of the picture. I understand he wants to be nice, and not just tell her to fuck off, but Ive been the ex girlfriend who wanted to be friends and still loved the guy...it doesnt work. At the very least you need a LONG break from each other before friendship is even a possibility.

suzanne vega

Any Suzanne Vega fans here?

I just bought Retrospective: The Best of Suzanne Vega and I haven't given it a thorough listen yet. I bought it while only knowing three songs: "Tom's Diner," "Luka," and "99.9F degrees." (I don't know the html to make the degrees sign.)

I felt like Suzanne Vega was an artist I would like and one that I should become more familiar with. *shrug*

Anyway, to those of you that like her, what are your favorite songs by her?

I've got a good question for you guys! It's most likely a psychological/scientific question...has to do with how the mind works.

Let's say you know somebody who has ABSOLUTELY no problems at all being able to remember random dates. Totally insignificant dates, at that. This person doesn't just remember the dates somebody got married, but totally random dates, such as the day their friends registered at a message board, etc.

Is there a reason why a person would be able to remember dates extremely well? Enlighten me, please!

Have you ever seriously considered seeing an awful-looking movie just because you really liked someone in the cast?

For the ones you actually did watch, were they better or worse than you expected?

During my Jimmy Fallon phase (shut up!), I watched The $cheme and Taxi. The former was utterly unwatchable, but the latter was kind of stupidly funny.

My best friend and I also attempted to watch most of Hugh Laurie's filmography, including Spice World, Flight of the Phoenix, and the Stuart Little movies. We were not terribly impressed.

And now I'm considering going to see American Dreamz just because I really like Hugh Grant. I also kind of want to rent Dracula 2000 for Gerard Butler and The Island for Ewan McGregor

this might be a stupid question but has anyone ever been bullied online?

edit: do you think bullying can exist in an online community in the same way that it could in real one, should people be less affected by stuff that happens online

would you/ do you meet people off the internet? and would you/ do you lie to other people about how you met them?

are you less shy on the internet than in real life? i'm more shy on the internet, which is why this interests me i suppose.

It's my last day of classes for my first degree! Who's excited?

When you were in elementary school, what were some 'last day of school' songs you sang?

Edit Also, I've decided that I want to make my parents cry. Not in a bad way, but in a good way. So I want to give them thank you gifts for my graduation. I go to Florida State. My father is a huge Florida State fan, so I know anything that says FSU is a good gift for him. My mother, however, is a University of Florida fan (rivals). I know if I got her something small that said FSU on it, she'd use it. But would it be more appropriate to just get her something she's interested in? I want to get FSU stuff because that's what they paid for (sort of) and that's going to be the school I'm most proud of attending. I just am not sure if I should get my mom something FSU since she's a fan of the rivals.

I am trying to do a References page in Word for this big paper that I have due today. The references need to be in APA format where it would read like:

Author, Name.(1998) Title of Journal Article. Title of Journal Book, Volume and whatever...

The 2nd line of the references needs to be indented..and i know i've done it before but for whatever reason Word is not letting me indent the 2nd line. So far, I've tried putting in a bunch of spaces and using the tab key and trying to format it but it hasn't worked yet.

Could anyone tell me how I can indent just the 2nd line with Word, Please!?!

Thanks!

Sony Spyware audio CDs

So I bought one of the Sony-manufactured audio CDs that came with the spyware autoinstaller a while back, right? (Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself, specifically)

Does anyone know if i can send that CD back to Sony and get one that doesn't have the spyware?

Did they produce non-spyware replacements?

yes, I am a tall freak

My pant inseam is 38 inches. I have to have my clothes specially made. Women's pants in stores are NEVER longer than 35 inches... and in catalogues I've never seen anything over 37 inches.
Am I freak or what? How the hell can I financially afford to keep this up for the rest of my life?

So there's this girl. She has a bit of a small quirk. She adamantly refuses to use a pen that is missing its cap. If a pen was manufactured to have a cap, the cap must be present for her to use it. If it's a retractable pen or some sort of pen that was never made with a cap to begin with, then she's fine with it. It's just pens manufactured with caps.....

Do any of you know someone like this, or is she the only person in the world with this particular quirk? If you or someone you know has this quirk, please explain it to me.

The News

So... in regards to all the seriously screwy, horrific crap on the news these days... I am wondering what your opinions are on the following:

1. Are we getting more f***ed up as a society, or are we just hearing about the ugly more often now because of the increase in accessible media?

2. How much of a media's intention is it to report the news over getting ratings from shock value?

3. What productivity does it serve the masses to hear about a gruesome "resolved" murder/rape/etc. ("resolved" meaning criminal was caught, body found, etc.)?

4. Does the overexposure of such terrible events (in such graphic detail no less), desensitize us?

The Name Game

Our dogs just had a litter of 6 puppies... 3 all black (like the dad), 2 black with brown markings (like the mom), and one brindled (???). We're keeping the brindled puppy, and we're trying to decide on a name for her.

I liked Lily, Aoife, Pansy (may she RIP), Mischa...
My wife suggested Mica, Pandora, Willow...

We can't seem to agree.

So...

What should we name this puppy? Keep in mind the only reason she looks so small is that she's only 2 1/2 weeks old - both parents are over 75 pounds.

Years ago, there was a commercial that had a team of surgeons in an operating room with the usual vitals monitors going on in the background. A few seconds in, you hear the EKG starting to beat in a rhythmic pattern, and then a few seconds later the patient starts singing the first lines of Soft Cell's "Tainted Love," then the surgeons all join in song.

What was that commercial for? Does anyone have a clip of it?

Any vets in the house?

I have a cat, and when I came home from work just now, she was laying out in the enclosed porch howling and she had a huge bug [a queen bee, according to my dad] stuck into her side. The Bee was crushed, but I'm not sure if my cat is okay. She's walking around low to the ground and meowing. Do Queen Bees have stingers? Could it have hurt her badly, or bother her more then a day [long-term problems]? Should I take her to the vet, or should it be okay? Any way to remedy it at home [Ice, maybe]?

Has anyone used http://www.surveyscout.com or a similar site to gain a little extra cash on the side? If so, how did it work? As a full-time student, my availability is crap and even part time positions look at it and never talk to me again. But I need some income, and I need it now! Even if it's just a little.

I looked that particular site up to make sure it had no scam warnings, but was just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with such things.

Gassy hypothetical

Let's say you have a new boyfriend or girlfriend. You've only been going out for a few weeks and you're going on your first lengthy drive to get away together for the weekend. It's an hour drive to your destination and you're the passenger. 20 minutes in, you feel the festering of powerful, painful gas building up inside you and you can feel a mighty fart, either in sound or aroma, urging to break free. You've got 40 minutes on the road to go. The two of you are still new around each other and you're still on your best behavior around them, but this fart is really about to burst out.

What do you do?

I've been holding these in for a while, hehe. Like farts in a car with a new SO.

1. What's something that smells good to you but doesn't taste good to you?

2. Do you feel stupider when you are caught in the rain without an umbrella or when you carry an umbrella around all day and it doesn't rain?

3. Do you know of a way to get Kurt Vonnegut's mailing address? Would a letter get to him if I sent it to his publisher? And to be clear, I'm looking for a snail mail address-- I think he likes that better than email :D

4. Does it bother you when, in TQC, people post questions that are sentence fragments with question marks at the end instead of actual questions, so that they sound like commands? Like "Things to do in the park?" instead of "What are some things I can do in the park?"

5. What is your favorite musical instrument?

Renter Discrimination?

Presently, my roommate and I are living in a two bedroom apartment above a little Italian landlady who speaks not a word of English. The other day, she knocks at the door because she wants to show people our apartment (the lease is up in May). She looks at my roommate, shakes her head, and says "The black people!" and keeps muttering this over and over. She shows the people the apartment, and a little translating tells the students that:
1. Esperia, the landlady, doesn't like a lot of people in the house
2. She likes to know everyone who goes into the apartment
3. She goes to bed at 11 so everyone needs to be in by then
After the people leave, she keeps muttering that expression over and over and shaking her head like they have some nerve.

Roommate and I have no rules. Roommate and I are both white.

Then tonight, roommate and I had friends over, and one friend leaves. Esperia approaches her and tells her, in broken English, that she has the extra rooms to rent out and friend should tell her friends. Esperia then adds "Whites only, no blacks"

Our friend is black.

That just crosses the line with me, and I have absolutely no tolerance for such people. I cannot stand this landlady to begin with, should I report her for renter discrimination? How do I go about doing that?

Have you ever witnessed a similar situation?

I want to know about your high schools:

1. Did your school have night school for people to make up credits? How much did it cost?
2. Did your school have summer school for people to make up credits? How much did that cost?

3. What was your attendance policy - if you remember?

I ask because of where I'm working.

1. Night schools costs something like $25 per class. Kids purposely fail in regular school so that they can just go to night school and do nothing and pass.
2. Summer school used to be just like night school, but the school council can't afford to put up so much money to cover it. The price just shot from $25 per class to $150. The students think that it's insanely expensive, but I want to know what's 'normal'.

3. We don't have one, and our kids know it. We are trying to make one up that the administration will impliment.
Things we can't do include:
-Suspend students for a certain number of cuts or tardies.
-Drop the student from the class after a certain number of cuts or tardies.

We are looking for good ideas! What worked at your school and what didn't?

Family Help

My family had a fallout with me when I called the cops on my dad after he beat the crap out of me (charged with domestic violence, yada yada). Basically, they didn't think it was the "right" thing for me to do. Since then (two plus years ago), I moved out and haven't spoken to my family more than a couple times. One is when an aunt of mine ran into me in another state (WTF!!), and when I wanted a recipe that I grew up on. My sister and I are the only ones who talk sometimes (the recipe). She told me she was having a kid, that was in November. Today, I get pictures saying he was born in January. The text of the message reads "Thought you might like to see some pictures of your nephew. He was born January 9, which makes him 3 months old now. He’s REALLY cute and a very good baby. The first couple are from his birthday, the next one is at 7 weeks and the last one is from Easter. Hope all is well with you; enjoy!" What would you do in this situation? Would you respond saying he's cute and asking for a name? Would you leave it at that?

Edit: When I left my dad, I was taken to a women's shelter, basically, becomming homeless. When my time there was up, I asked if I could move in with her, for two-weeks to a month to find a job and get settled. She said she'd talk to her husband and never called me back.
