While I've had a couple retail/sales jobs, I always feel like I'm asking for too little in an hourly wage.
So I ask you, what do you think is an appropriate hourly wage for someone with two christmas seasons worth of register experience? (I live in Illinois, where the minimum wage is $6.50, I believe)
Okay so another question: My iPod refuses to connect to my laptop, and when I take it out it sometimes flashes the sad iPod icon, or that folder icon. So I figured something was up with my iPod. I brought it into the Apple store, and the guy tried to hook it up to his computer and he said it wouldn't work -- so he was going to bring it to some other guy, and then he saw that it was an HP iPod and said I'd need to talk to someone else-- so the reason it didn't hook up to his computer was because it was an HP? or does it matter?
and the second question, it hooks up fine to my mom's desktop, could this be a laptop issue? I haven't had any other problems with USB connections
1) What instrument do they use to make those funky riffs in Seinfeld episodes?
2) In the slang term "Homie G", what does the G stand for?
3) PLEASE don't think this is a racist question - I'm just curious: What makes black people's hair different than white people, in that they can get it done and braided or straightened so awesome and it just stays that way? I've always wondered this - is it like how girls who get a perm can sleep in it the night after and it still looks okay, (well, until a shower that is)....yet with black people, and correct me if I'm wrong, their hair stays neat even through washing it? Clue me in here, because it's a mystery to me, and some of those hairstyles are so damn cool, it seems almost impossible that they exist in the first place. O_O
What's the (correct, english) plural form of penis?
Codeine! What does it do? What does it feel like? What are the side-effects/after-effects? How long does it take to wear off? Experiences and what-have-you!
And preferably in nice, easy-to-understand language.
Can a twelve-year-old be trusted to know not to trust strangers?
Recently both my roommate and I got 30gb video iPods, got to love Best Buy credit, and I've been uploading a bunch of stuff onto them. Sometimes though when I try to add a TV show iTunes will show the whole updating dialogue and also when I click on the iPod in the iTunes window it will show those tv shows as being on the iPod, yet when I try to find them on my iPod later on they are not there. I've tried this with TV Show mpeg's that I have converted using WinAVI MP4 Converter as well as clicking on files in my iTunes libary and choosing the option to convert to iPod format. Everytime I try to convert the file in iTunes it freezes on me or just plain never finishes and if I choose a file that's already in mp4 format yet didn't show up earlier on the iPod it will just tell me that the selection is already converted. Anybody have any idea what the problem could be or what I need to change? It's really annoying for some files to work and others not to. Thx in advance.
What compromises have you made for money?
I've been trying to convince myself that all the classes that I took in high school weren't for nothing. Most math especially seems fairly useless in real life. I'm taking statistics now, and I was wondering, what sorts of jobs use a lot of statistics? Things like confidence intervals and hypothesis testing? I don't really see where it could be used.
Okay, so when I got my SIM card (I'm on pay as you go) they gave me three months of this stupid friends bolt on for free. I hardly use my phone, so my free months ran out and now, whenever I top up, I get £5 taken out. No. I don't like that.
So I'm trying to unsubscribe from it. I called the bolt-on line and it told me to call 50 for the friends bolt-ons. So I called it and it doesn't exist. Fantastic. I can't unsubscribe through the site either, and NONE of the O2 customer service lines let me talk to a real person to ask how I do it.
Does anyone actually know how I can unsubscribe? It's really pissing me off, I'm not going to pay for a service I don't use.
If someone asks you for something, like a piece of the candy that you have, and you don't want to give it to them.. is it wrong to just tell them no??
Just beause someone wants something we have, and they ask for it without it being offered, does that mean we are obligated to give it to them?
My little sister is going to the Prom, and she needs a quote for the Grand March. She wants something funny... any ideas?
What are some good blogs? I'm really bored and wouldn't mind something good to read. :)
Well first of all I'd like ot thank everyone that helped me decide on an MP3 player a while ago. I decided on the Zen Micro. :]
HOWEVER...I can't figure out how to transfer my music from iTunes. I looked in the instruction booklet but it's not working. Anybody know how?
Is it possible to make hummus without tahini? My Google skills fail. D:
What's your favorite hummus recipe (including tahini or not)?
What kind (spicey, garlic-y, firm, liquidy, etc) would you reccommend to someone who's never had hummus before?
I'm one of those people who collect mementos throughout the year, says she's going to make a scrapbook, and then never follows through.
If I arrange the stuff in chronological order, is there a service that would make the scrapbook for me?
Maybe I could hire someone, but I just wouldn't know where to look.
If you were going to create a CD made up of music related to water (oceans, rivers, streams, lakes, etc.) which songs would you include?
Is there a community on LJ that is specifically for compiling playlists?
Quick! In 15 minutes I'm going to the video store. I plan on renting Rent and Brokeback Mountain, but does anyone have any other recommendations of good movies to watch? I hate scary/action movies, and finally caught up on some new releases I wanted to see, including Chicken Little, Wallace and Grommit Curse of the Were Rabbit, Walk the Line, and Must Love Dogs.
Also, favorite food to eat while watching movies?
Okay, so yesterday I got into an accident, and the only way for my headlights to work again is to get some bodywork done to the nose of my car to get the hood back into being able to open and to get the headlights to fit how they're supposed to. My insurance doesn't cover collision, so I'm stuck paying for this on my own. Any way that I can get discounts or the basic work done for cheaper? I am a college student and my car is 11 years old so looking "pretty" doesn't matter to me, just want to be able to pass inspection.
No, this isn't a preachy post, not by any means.
For those folk that stick to veganism, how on earth d'ya gain weight? I want to gain five pounds. I know muscle-building exercise and lots of protein helps, but the exercise needs to wait until this semester is done. I can't gain weight, no matter how much I eat and it's really aggravating!
So, other than that, what's a sister to do?
I am looking for a website that shows different hairstyles. I found one, but it has mostly 80s cuts and that's not what I am looking for. Does anyone have any sites that they can recommend to me?
Oh, and has anyone been to a Regis Salon? If you have, how was your experience?
What do you look for in a comic book?
In the characters? The plot? What about genre?
I'm thinking of starting one, and I need some ideas to start me off.
how long can i keep eggs in the refrigerator?
edit: i obviously wouldn't be asking if i knew the expiration date and i wasn't going to google this because i'd rather get human answers. "it should be good three to five weeks" is different from "all the eggs i've cooked have sucked after i've left them in the fridge for x-amount of time"
edit 2: it sunk. thank you. i will now make a fried egg.
What are some speech disorders that start with E that are symptoms of underlying psychological disorders? I've got echolalia, but I know I know more and am drawing a blank.
I've been really stressed out lately trying to figure out what to do with my life, and this isn't made any better by people trying to make small talk with me by asking "So what are you doing with your life?" or some variation thereof. However, I have in the past done this very same thing to people in my situation and now I feel horrible and don't want to do that to anyone else. So what is a good small talk question to ask someone who is in their early 20's as a follow up to the general "How are you"s that won't make people feel bad or anxious about their direction in life?
When you were a kid, did you and your family sit down at the dinner table every night? (If you still live with your parents, do you do this?) How important was this 'family time', if at all? Do you think this has contributed to your closeness as a family?
When I was little, my mom made me and my sister sit down at the dinner table every night for dinner, no ifs, ands, or buts. We weren't allowed to watch TV while we were at the table, and we had to wait until everyone was done eating before we got up. But every Friday my mom would order pizza and she let us eat dinner while watching a movie in the living room.
1) If you get stood up on your first date by someone, and they call you the next day apologizing over and over and asking for another chance to meet, do you let them?
And here was their reason... they wanted to take a 1/2 hour nap, and ended up sleeping the night away.
Do you believe that excuse, would you trust them and give them 1 more chance?
2) What are some excuses you heard that sounded ridiculous for not meeting for a date, but ended up being the truth?
1. Why did Francis Dunnery refuse to replace Phil Collins in Genesis?
2. What is the song whose chorus goes "I'm a hummingbird, say that you'll be mine"? I tried googling for that and snippets of lyrics from the verses, couldn't find anything. It sounds a lot like Kate Bush.
Can you safely put egg shells in a garbage disposal?
My debit card expires at the end of this month, and I am looking to get a credit card. Normally this would be easy, but I've made a few financial mistakes and my credit is bad. I need to use it do pay off a couple bills so that I can start making my credit better. In a month or so I'll be able to fix most my non-student loan debt (which is deferred until I graduate) and will be more stable, but currently I'm not making much money.
Does anyone know of companies that would work with me? Yes, I know I'll have a high interest rate. I'm just ready to start fixing my financial situation and get it under control.
I feel forever bloated. I am not sure why. It's not just during that time of the month. But I feel like am walking around with a lot of air inside... and all I want to do is stick a needle in to pop that bubble... bleah... any ideas why or what I could do?
The only thing I can think of that I am doing differently from before is regular exercise (2-3 times a week at the gym). But I don't know how that would relate...oh and my intake of meat has increased as I have been eating out in the evening as well. (at home I stick to vegetarian diet)....
Are bridal stores generally open on Sunday? Are appointments generally needed for bridesmaids to browse for dresses?
In honor of my younger brother who is at his prom tonight...
What's your favorite euphemism to say 'wear a condom'?
I like "When you go to bat, wear a hat!"
EDIT: Sorry for so many questions, but what happens to pets at Petsmart or Petco that are not sold [who get older..] do they euthenise them or send them somewhere? Are national pet chains usually humane? I was offered a job at Petsmart, but I will not work there if they abuse/neglect animals. Thanks.
1. Can you usually schedule appointments at Beauty schools? The salon I go to is booked for prom :(
2. Okay, if a salon says that it offers a "full leg" waxing or a "half leg" waxing, are they talking about both legs or one leg. Let's say a full leg waxing is $25, would I have to pay $50 for both legs?
3. I've never gone to church before, or belonged to one rather, and I'm moving to a new city for college and would like to attend one [An Episcopal church, or just another branch of Protestant]. How do I "join"? Do I just start showing up? Do I talk to the minister?
4. If you left your wallet in your friends car and they went out drinking [the wallet was left in the car] and they came back without your wallet what would you do if....
A) They tell you that it was stolen.
B) They say that they spent it on drinks
C) They say that's it's missing, or put off giving you the wallet.
[Also, take into account that it was $140 and that we're in high school, so all of us are underage. Also I need the money to open a bank account.]
5. I'm going to ask one of my guy friends if he wants to go out to prom. I'm going to do it pretty casually no matter what, but what's a memorable/funny/witty way to do it? I don't want him to think I like him.
6. If Guy A isn't going, I might ask my best guy friend, except he's really into me, and I don't want him to get the impression that I like him [but I'd like to go with either Guy A or Guy B because I'd have more fun with them then anyone else]. Would you do that if you think he might become misguided and/or hurt by you asking him, even though he might not otherwise go to the prom?
Has anyone ever gotten a Mystic Tan (or a similar spray on tan dealy) ?
What were the results?
Did it turn you orange or splotchy?
How long did it last?
How many of you lost your virginity on your prom night?
I never went to my prom. I lost mine in camp, two months later.
Does anyone know of an online libretto for the opera Giasone by Francesco Cavalli -- with a translation to English?
Heh. I wonder if I'll get an answer for this one. ;)
Do you wear your wedding/engagement ring in the shower/bath/pool? I'm in the habit of taking it off, but I don't know why. I guess I'm afraid it'll slip off my finger, or get caught in my hair, or something like that. What do most people do?
