Richard Pryor

Am I just not looking around enough, or has there really been, you know, not that much attention to Richard Pryor's death?
I mean, not that I expect a parade or anything, but as he had been named the greatest comedian ever by Comedy Central, and he did a share of pretty amazing stuff, I haven't heard anything about it outside of landing on CNN at just the right time the day he died. Heck, if I hadn't been watching TV at that exact time, I wouldn't have even found out about it. Have you seen any headlines or TV spots about it?

Hair coloring question

I'm hoping someone can answer this or point me in the right direction to a community that can.

Instead of being smart and going to a professional, I decided to color my hair myself.
I went with a more blonde tint but it turned my hair a peachy, orangy color.
So I went to the store and bought more dye, this time a light brown.
My hair is still a terrible reddish color, but I want it back to mousy brown now.
How I can I fix this? What color should I buy to get it back to brown or at least to a normal blonde color, not peach, orange, or red?
I'm low on funds this week so I can't go to a salon and probably can't until after the holidays.

Is there a way I can see what group of paintings were on display in a museum in 2001/2? I can't remember the name of the artist whose art was on display at the time, and it's driving me nuts.

Atlanta High Museum of Art, if that helps.

What makes somebody a good friend?

I don't mean like "we both love the same band" or anything, but... in the relationship, in the way they treat you, etc.. what makes the difference between an acquaintance and a friend? a friend and a best friend?

chill pills

So how do you calm yourself down during exams? :/

Lately I've been freaking out during mine, as in you look at something, think you can't do it, and just have a total brain freeze and think you're going to lose 10% right there. >.<

And obviously I prepare for it... but it still happens. My next exam (math/calc/killmeplz) is at 9am, and I'm already getting butterflies.

So what do you during exams to keep you calm and collected?

Don't make Santa mad!

Ever notice how around the holidays, whenever a child misbehaves, the parent always threatens them by saying "Santa wont come unless you be good".

Has that ever actually worked? Does that honestly make kids behave?

And secondly, for the kids who do in fact misbehave, do you think the parents ever do limit the presents?

Any stories to share?

Last.fm plugin + Windows Media Player

I got an account at Last.fm, and I downloaded the Windows Media Player plugin, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to install it. In the instructions, it says: The first time you run Windows Media Player after AudioScrobbler has been installed, you will be presented with the AudioScrobbler config dialog. When you have entered your username and password and ensured the plugin is enabled (see below), AudioScrobbler will begin to monitor Windows Media Player for playing songs. This isn't happening.

What do I do? I've tried just about everything I could think of.

IBD

Anyone out there have Crohn's or Colitis??
I have Crohn's, diagnosed when I was 18. I have a question regarding college, I currently go to a community college, but I previously went to a 4 yr and lived on campus. Said campus was 30 minutes from my house so I didn't worry about the IBD because I could always just go home if I was having problems.
Well, Im getting ready to transfer to a different 4 yr- upstate. I will be very far from home and will pretty much have to suffer the dorms. My question is, for anyone with IBD (and IBS)who has lived in a dorm setting, how'd it go? Tips? Advice? I know there is disabled student housing and Im wondering if that would be a good idea, but Im not sure how it's set up. Honestly, though, if I had a choice, Id rather live in the LGBT themed house, but Id also like to have a little dignity.

spare change

What is the largest amount of spare change you have ever had? (i.e. saved up in a can or something, not just in your pocket or wallet.)

When I moved in with the guy who is now my husband, he had a desk he'd had since childhood. One of the drawers was just full of coins that he always threw in there. I dumped all the coins into bags and lugged them to the bank. Total amount of change he'd had in the drawer??? $831.

Christmas gifts

What is your idea of a "big" Christmas gift? I always hear people talking about buying their kids, significant other, or whoever gifts and they'll say something like "Well, I got their BIG gift but I still haven't finished with everything else yet".

In your opinion, what price range would constitute a BIG GIFT? When you were a child, what kinds of gifts did your parents (or uhh, Santa) buy you?

My parents never really bought me a "big gift". I got a lot of little things - books, CDs, pajamas, clothes, etc. My brothers usually got a big gift because there was always something they'd want - like Nintendo, or xbox or an iPod, etc.

My fiancé has always gotten BIG gifts - he's an only child but I don't know if that's relevent or not. He is 25 and his parents still spend a huge amount of money on him. In recent years, he's received a laptop, an iPod, a Nintendo DS. This year, I just found out his mom bought him Sirius radio (or XM radio?I don't even know the difference), the Calvin and Hobbes box set (which is $100something), a $150 coat, a portable DVD player - and then the "little things".

What are your opinions on this? If you intend to have children, how to plan on treating the holidays?

For those of you who believe in marriage -

If you're already married, answer what DID happen.
Otherwise, answer what you think, and answer for yourself. [Like what's the ideal time for YOU to be dating or engaged, not for the general population]

1) How long do you think you should be dating someone exclusively because you get engaged? Why?
2) How long do you think you should be engaged before getting married? Why?
3) Would you ever get eloped? Why or why not?

I thought about this because I've heard that my ex wants to go elope in Vegas with his new week-long girlfriend. *roll eyes*

Note: if you do not believe in marriage at all, please don't answer, thanks.

Okay, I want to make a Christmas mix for a friend of mine, and I want to make it really weird. Please give me some suggestions of songs to download that might fit this mix...

I'd like it to include:
--bizarre original songs
--maybe some Christmas comedy (nothing cheesy/cliche like 'Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer' though)
--unusual/unexpected covers of carols
--mashups
--whatever

Just nothing normal!

Christmas Card Lane

My hometown had a tradition every Christmas season, where all the residents on this one particular street full of expensive houses in the rich neighborhood would paint giant boards of plywood to look like giant Christmas cards addressed to the town residents, and blinky light displays and reindeer and santa figurines and whatnot in their yards. They'd really go all out and it was a tradition for kids of my town to walk down that street on christmas Eve and look at what all the different houses had done.

There was also another street where more rich people lived, and on Halloween they'd make haunted houses in their front yards, and the whole family in each house had CRAZY cool costumes and creepy light displays and the like for Halloween, and it was the ONLY street kids ever trick-or-treated on because the rich people handed out good candy, and it was so well-lit and the street would actually get blocked off from traffic for that one night.

I think what makes them neat is it was not something the city arranged or approved, it was just all the residents in a particular neighborhood agreeing to do it and it evolved over the years into something the city just let happen "for the children's sake" or whatever.

Anyway the question is does your town do stuff like this, or is it unique to my town? Will you ever go back to your hometown to see it again? I probably won't anytime soon, because my town doesn't exactly have any nice houses or neighborhoods or much of anything anymore. Thanks, hurricane Katrina!

Is my Mom full of crap?

I'm not sure if this is true, but my Mom told me when I was a kid (so it's probably bull) that she didn't get my tonsils taken out - despite near-constant tonsilitis from the ages of 2-8 - that taking them out would only open me up to more infection. Her reasoning was (and supposedly it was backed up by our old Dr.) that the bacteria that caused the infection in the first place needs to go somewhere, so if the tonsils "catch" it, you're better off then if they're not there... then you would be more prone to appendicitis and other infections.

People who have been de-tonsilled, do you get many infections? Or is my Mom a big stinky liar?

I'm going out with one of my friends tonight, and we're a little tired of the same-old same-old. Normally we head to a little neighborhood gay bar/small club, but we're looking for something a little more interesting. The problems are: A) We live in a fairly boring city, and b) he's under 21, which isn't a problem for about half the bars/clubs around, but tends to be a problem for the stuff we want to go to. He's working until nine, which also limits our options. I'm a little tired of just going to a club...any suggestions?

age &relationships

1. How old are you, and how many relationships (including any you may currently be in) have you had?
(I'm 23 and I've had two.)

2. When did you start dating? [Your first actual SO in title, not first time you 'hung out' with someone of your preferred sex.]
(Age 16)

3. Do you lie about your age? Do you think you will ever lie about your age for vanity reasons?
(I have a habit of, once I hit ##-and-a-half, I say I'm the next age up; my mother did it when I was little- always told people I was a year older, if I hit the halfway mark. Other than that, no, I don't understand lying about one's age.)

4. What do you think is an appropriate age for teens to start dating? Does that age differ between boys and girls?
(Generally I think 15 is a good age to start dating, for both boys and girls.)

fashion again

I really like vintage-sheer-frilly clothes like this but I don't know how to wear them since they're sheer. I've always been a jeans-and-hoodie person, but I want to start wearing nicer clothes from the vintage shop. I found that Anthropologie makes clothes just like what I'd find at the vintage shop. What would be appropriate to wear under these blouses? Be as specific as possible, I already know most of you will say "a cami" or something but I'm looking for info on the best cut, color, whatever of an undershirt that would look good with these specific blouses.

2. ok, this one is weird: say you're listening to a song and, due to context and rhyme scheme, you anticipate a lyric coming up, but then it turns out the artist doesn't use that word that you think is coming, does that bug you? for example, in the song "jesus walks" by kanye west, the song goes...

"Cause we’re the almost nearly extinct
We rappers are role models, we rap we don't think
I ain't here to argue about his facial features
Or here to convert atheists into believers"

and when i hear that i think, "why the hell didn't he write 'or here to convert athiests into preachers'? it rhymes! it makes sense!" maybe i'm just crazy, but does this kind of stuff occur to anyone else?
