So... I was having a discussion with my friends, and we were joking about how many times Tokyo was destroyed. So I was wondering...

In how many movies, games, and comic books (including manga) has Tokyo been destroyed? Name as many as you can.

How do you cure this?

Game Recommendations and other stuff [Aug. 13th, 2005|12:53 am]

[mood |crankycranky]
[music |Skandals - Ja Gan!]

1. I need a recommendation on a new computer game to buy for myself. I enjoy strategy games mostly, but I'm not averse to some hack-and-slash. I like graphics-based games, not text-based games. I've been playing Civilizations 3 all week and I need something else. Other games I already have are Age of Mythology, Diablo 2, the Sims and Majesty, to give you an idea of what I enjoy. What would you recommend?

2. There's this bottle of multivitamins (Centrum Forte if it matters) that has been sitting on my computer desk here near the window for the last three months. The expiry date is 2006/08, so there's still a year on them theoretically. However, it says to store between 15-30 degrees Celsius, and it's been over 30 for a good amount of the past three months. Opening the bottle, they smell sort of odd, but I've never smelled vitamins before, so I'm not sure what they're supposed to smell like. You think they'd be safe to take, or should I get a new bottle?

3. Do you think taking both Latin and Ancient Greek in the same semester would be confusing?

4. Do you know of any websites that will translate transliterated Russian (that is, Russian in Latin characters rather than Cyrillic) to English? The sites I've been finding only translate Cyrillic writing, not transliterated writing. Failing that, anyone here speak Russian and could translate a short three/four sentence thing from transliterated Russian to English for me? Thank you!

5. Artists - how should I stretch watercolour paper if I lack a nice-sized body of water to soak the paper in? When I did watercolours with my mom years ago she had a sink in her studio especially for that purpose, but now the only thing I have is a bathtub that I share with five roommates, that'll never be clean no matter how much I scrub it, not to mention it would probably get disturbed by people wanting to take showers anyways.

6. I want to get a small pet (but not a hamster, rat or guinea pig - my roommates already have those). I'd get a cat or a bunny, but one of my roommates, as well as my boyfriend, are allergic to those. What kind of small fuzzy pet would you recommend?

Do you look at someone's LiveJournal, Xanga, or any other blog, and they don't know it? Or read a random person's blog always wanting to comment or friend them, but to scared too? Ever read an enemies blog to see what they say?

I used to read someone's LJ because I thought they were interesting. . I'm weird. I don't do it anymore, but sometimes when I get bored I do the random search and read journals.

Did anyone else have to do a project in high school social studies class based on lyrics from Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire"?

I did, and other other girl at work had to. (she's 17, I'm 25). The 22 year old male didn't at his school.

Did any of you?

Someone asked me my earliest childhood memory and I honestly don't remember anything before age 4. He claims most people remember even earlier like at 2.

So, how old were you in your earliest childhood memory?

How many think that any of this is true of role-playing games or is even possible beyond the behavior of the individual whack-job?

I've just recently noticed the phrase "I'd hit that" twice now. Each time, it seems to have a specific meaning, and other people are taking it out of context or using it incorrectly somehow. Never noticed it before, though.

So what's does it mean?

What is your favorite comic strip? I love the quirky ones like Far Side, Close to Home, Over the Hedge, Pearls Before Swine.

What comic strip have you never read? I have never read Prince Valient, and don't know anyone who has. Has anyone read that? Someone must be because it's been in the paper since I was a kid.

This Friday (the 19th) I'm moving out of my parents' house and into an apartment with 3 other girls.

I'll be about 10 minutes from campus, and classes start the 29th but I'm a freshman orientation guide and won't have any free time before classes begin, so if I forget something I won't be able to come home to get it for quite a while, and I won't even really have time to go out and buy anything I need until the 30th!

What's something I'm going to need that I'll probably forget?

Do you prefer to surround yourself with:

A) People more intelligent than you? With the possible result that you feel dumber than the average bear.
B) People less intelligent than you? With the possible result that you feel smarter than the average bear.

Why?

As long as they're not condescending &/or narrow-minded, I almost always prefer A because I like to learn from others.

How the hell do I get rid of all this crap on my computer? I have some sort of virus or something, so I bought a virus program (McAfee) yesterday and ran it, and it deleted 5 trojans, so I thought that was the end of that. I ran Ad-Aware, and it came up with 300+ things to delete, so I delete them. If I run Ad-Aware again, it picks up another 100 or so. I can delete them. Then there's another 30 on a third scan. Delete. 10. 2. None. Fine - but the computer still runs incredibly slowly and these pop ups are driving me up the wall. If I wait 20 minutes and run Ad-Aware again, there's another 300+ issues to delete, so I obviously have a virus.. why isn't McAfee getting rid of the problem and what can I do????? :(

This question goes out to anyone who's had a tattoo.

I got mine on Wednesday night. I have been cleaning it with antibacterial soap and applying an antibacterial tattoo-aftercare moisturizer. Tonight, however, the area around the tattoo has become reddened in spots and it's started to hurt a little bit (not much). Should I be worried, or is this a normal part of the healing process? (I got it at a VERY clean parlor, with all the certifications and such, so it shouldn't be any kind of tattoo-borne disease.)

Since Ebay charges seller fees (like when you post an item, when an item wins, etc.), do you use your credit card to pay those fees?

If so, does Ebay charge anything extra?
I don't want to go through with this unless I fully know that my credit card is only for seller fees.

I just informed my mother that I am an atheist. She told me that this has made her more disappointed than anything in her life, and if my grandmother were alive, she would be ashamed of me.

I am not the rebellious sort of person; that is, I didn't tell her for shock value. I've thought about the issue over a few years, and I've found myself without belief in a deity.

I am seventeen and have one more year before college. Any advice on how to make this situation easier is appreciated. Thanks.
