Chapstick Allergy? [Jul. 22nd, 2005|12:04 am]
The Question Club

thequestionclub

[ashley_v85]
I think I may be allergic to an ingredient that is used in certain chapsticks, lip balms, glosses, whatever.

I used some of my sister's stuff...I don't remember what it was exactly, but some type of Intensive Lip Therapy ointment. It helped at first, but after a little while of using it, the line of my upper lip started to get really sore and dry...to the point of cracking and/or peeling.

The same thing happened with Bath and Body Works' Wet Your Whistle chapstick. It helped at first, then made the edge of my top lip really sore and dry and chapped.

Another chapstick that my mom bought me a while ago did the same thing.

Now, my upper lip is doing it again. I'm not sure what it was that caused it this time though.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you know what this ingredient may be? I'm not allergic to all kinds of chapstick. At least I don't think I am. And any tips on how to get rid of it? Last time Cetaphil helped...but it took quite a while.

Thanks in advance!

I got punched in the face exactly a week ago. It's been a little sore and swollen, but it's gotten a lot better this week. And my nose doesn't look any different, so I don't think it's broken. I never got it checked out because a) I was dealing with much worse things and b) I don't really care as long as I can breathe OK.
Today I noticed that my left cheek makes a small cracking noise whenever I scrunch up my nose, followed by a weird little twinge of pain. I am rather disturbed by this. Is there anything that can be done about this? If I go to a doctor, will they be able to do anything about it? Is this temporary, or am I forever endowed with the uh, ability to crack my face? I am so disturbed!

And for some reason, my sister HATES the sound of people's utensils touching their plate.

Not necessarily cliche peeves that annoy a lot of people in general, but a genuinely strange annoyance that is unavoidable.

Do you ever have an object or a thought and think "what if I did this.." as in taking the object or thought and thinking like "what if I stabbed myself, or someone else with this here butter knife" or even something a lot worse.

Anyone know why my text on my friends list would all of the sudden all go black? My page template has a black background. It's not just someone on my front page that didn't close their font color code, since I've skipped back 2 pages and it's still all black. I wasn't tinkering with my colors for my layout or anything else recently either.

*edit* Ok, now why would my set preferences here on LJ get changed? I went and checked them and my text one was set to black again.

Collections? [Jul. 22nd, 2005|08:55 am]

Hey everyone!

I work for a company who ocassionally has to call people up and try to collect what they owe us. We don't outsource our collections work, but we also aren't given any guidelines as to how/when to call people.

How early is too early to be calling individuals (home or business) in order to get them to come in and pay?

Do collections rules apply to small businesses like ours (in regards to acceptable calling times/days/etc)? What are the rules?

We're located in Ontario Canada, if that makes any difference to the laws/rules.

Thanks!

PLEASE tell me I am not going insane.

Before I left for a friend's house last night, I went through my CD collection and pulled out 2-3 CDs I wanted to listen to on the ride up there.

One of them was a burned copy of Soul Coughing - Live at Irving Plaza that an ex-boyfriend made for me years ago. I hadn't listened to it in AGES, so I figured it'd be a good pick.

When I got out onto the highway to head up there, I popped the Soul Coughing CD in. And then was VERY confused because out of my speakers came the Blue Man Group.

I know without a shadow of a doubt that there is NO WAY IN HELL that it was BMG the whole time. I checked to make sure that I hadn't accidentally inserted two CDs (that maybe BMG and SC had gotten stuck together somehow). Nope. One CD.

I then double-checked to make sure that there wasn't already another CD in my car stereo, but there wasn't. Plus I've tried to insert a disk before when there was one already in there. And if there's one already in there, the other CD won't even go in.

So how in the FUCK could this have happened?

For the record: my computer doesn't have a burner. And the CD-ROM drive hasn't worked with regular audio CDs in quite some time (at least a few months, if not longer).

So what the FUCK could've happened? How in the hell did my Soul Coughing CD suddenly turn into that BMG CD? And for confusion's sake, the BMG CD is a regular CD, not a burned one.

What's the freakin' big deal about diamonds anyway? I went on the net to look at jewelry yesterday, and anytime I'd click on a link labelled "Engagement Rings," all I'd get are lousy diamonds. Why do they just assume that every girl wants a damn diamond? It's a clear hunk of carbon that's ridiculously overpriced. Give me sapphires, amethysts, rubies, opals any day over diamonds. They've got more color and personality. I think the companies that own the diamond mines have been making all those stupid "a diamond is forever" type ads in an effort to brainwash the world's women into mindless zombies who will consider it the ultimate gesture and tangible representation of love and personal value. And I think that sucks.

More piles of randomness:

1. Do dreams really mean anything? I've been having some really bad nightmares where I was lost in a riot and I couldn't find my car and another one where I was in a bloody massacre in a child care center (scared me shnitless, that one) and dream interpretation dictionaries haven't given me a very positive outlook as to meaning. On that note, any way to avoid nightmares?
2. How does one get over a fear of something when you don't know why your'e afraid of it?
3. Do you ever ask questions here that you wouldn't ask people who know you better (i.e. friends, family)?
4. What are your guilty pleasures?
5. Did you have any especially silly/interesting beliefs about the world when you were a kid? I used to think that dead people and/or animals could manifest themselves as clouds in the weather. I also thought that dinosaurs had ghosts and that dreams were thoughts your heart thought.

And finally...
6. I've been expecting a check in the mail from a legal settlement that's worth a few thousand USD. It was sent out this monday, but I still haven't recieved it yet. In a state where in-state mail shouldn't take more than a day, I'm beginning to get a bit suspicious. What should I do? Gratzie.

So my cat, Kayla, is three and a half years old and has yet to get along with another cat (aside from her mother when she was just a kitten). We got her when she was three months old, and was terrified of people. Three years later, she loooves everyone who lives in my house or regularly visits, but is scared of people she's never met. My sister brought her cat (she's about a year old, but already bigger than my cat), and Kayla promptly ran away.

My question is, do you think if we got a kitten (8 weeks old and still very tiny) Kayla would still freak out?

I was shopping at a thrift store today and the cashier didn't charge me for one of my items. I only noticed looking at my receipt as I was leaving. I wanted to go back and pay for it, but I felt odd having tell her she made a mistake and having her remember me the next time I was in the store. So I left. I feel like I still owe them $3 though, so I need to do something.

Would it be weird just to tell them they didn't charge me for something and ask if can I pay them $3? Or can I just mail a check for $3 to the salvation army (who runs this store)? What would be the right thing?

If I try to just relax my back normally there is shooting pain in my lower spine area and it is absolutely intolerable. In order to not feel this pain either I have to keep my back kind of tensed/arched (not good for sleep!) or I turn over and have to lay on my side in the fetal position until my body finally allows me to relax that way, and then I can lay on my back and be fine. So I went to Yahoo! to check my email and I see this: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050722/ap_on_re_mi_ea/egypt_explosion

Now, I live in Egypt and visit Sharm on vacation frequently. It's not like shit like this hasn't happened in Egypt before while I lived here, and it's not like this hasn't happened recently in Beirut and London, etc. Yet I find myself sitting here asking myself how I should react to these things. I don't know whether to cry or to rant. I went and told my sister, who has been to Sharm more than I have, what happened and she shrugged and said 'shit happens, and it's okay as long as it doesn't involve me or someone I like'. I don't understand that. I don't understand her apathy, but if that's her way of 'dealing' with it...meh.

Anyway, I'm rambling. My question to you is: how do you handle news like this? News that doesn't necessarily involve you directly, but still affects your life?

I remember playing this weird little computer game in school about 5-6 years ago, where you could set up a sort of play. You got to choose a scene and put characters on it, and choose from a variety of props, and I think make the characters move too.. and I think you got to type in text which later the characters said (in a horrible monotone of course). When you finished setting up the scene, you could watch the whole thing.

Anyway, this game was really old-looking with pretty bad graphics but I remember having a lot of fun with it so do any of you know what I'm talking about? Anyone know the title or where I might find it?

Thanks.
