I just downloaded a load of .ico files and I want to change the representing icons for some file folders in my directory. I know how to do this for regular folders, but how can I change the icons for the Program Files, WINDOWS, or other system folders that don't give the "change icon" option when you click Properties? I know it's possible, otherwise they wouldn't make alternate icons out there. Thanks a bunch. =)

EDIT: I have Windows XP Pro, btw.

Is there any truth to the rumor that blue and green eyes are more sensitive to light than brown eyes?

Is there something you used to be able to do well when you were younger that you can't anymore?

What kind of car do you drive?

When was the last time you wore a costume? Who or what were you dressed as?

you remain ignorant of how the process works. freedom of speech has no application here. a community on LJ is not a democracy, it is a dictatorship. you do indeed have freedom of speech, but you must go elsewhere to exercise it

This was said to me by a Moderator of a LiveJournal community. (No, not this one!) I disagreed with their process of Moderation (as politely as I could, only to be insulted that my opinion didn't matter), and instead they threatened to ban me and froze the comments so I could no longer continue the debate.

I'm curious, does anyone agree with her comment, and if yes- why?

Girls, do you say sorry when you have done something wrong? And I don't mean just be sorry I mean actually go to the person you have wronged and try to make a mense?

No girl has ever done that and it really hurts, and I am a girl and I always say sorry and try to fix things and I really want to know that I am not the only one who does this. Please tell me that not every girl is a stuck up bitch. Sorry for putting it like that but I am a littler bitter.

what consists of drama at your school? what do people talk about as far as what's happening among people you know?

at my school, it's always "so-and-so got busted," or "so-and-so got shot up." or "so-and-so stole my money/weed/etc." or "damnit, my dealer went to jail!"

is this normal? i gotta say, it doesn't bother me as much as it probably should, but it got me thinking...

what feeds rumors at your school?

Hi.

I have a question.

I have really long hair and I really hate brushing it so I never do. I can't even remember the last time that I have. But everytime I wash my hair, it goes back to not being to knotty. Is that bad?? Should I brush it? Will something bad happen like all my hair falling out?? HELP!

Can anyone tell me/direct me to a tutorial on how to make one of those fake LJ cuts?

Aslo, I've recently learned that I have no life and am looking to spiff up my LJ and my Icon journal...so if you know of any LJ communities or websites where I can find neat HTML codes (like...how to make an entry where you click on a heading at the top, it takes you to that point lower on the page, and then you have a back to top option...make sense?) I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks to everyone who suggested some ideas for twenties hair, you gave me some great ideas.
Tripped off to the opshop yesterday to find a dress, and now for some reason have two.
Cannot possibly wear both, and cannot decide between them, as am chronically indecisive. I'd like to therefore ask anyone with a spare second and an ounce of curiousity to click the cut-tag and tell me.. Which dress should I wear?Collapse )

Just occurred to me I still have a respectable pile of business cards that will soon become obsolete as per me moving house.

Answers on a postcard in a comment as to where you think would be the most useful place to leave/send them to get freelance Web/writing business by the end of March.

My mom's horse of 23 years died today while she was away from home visiting me. Ever since she received word she locked herself away, doesn't want to be bothered, and is crying softly. I can count on one hand the number of times I have seen my mom cry in my lifetime. I don't know what to do to console her. I gave her a big hug and asked if I could get her anything, but she just doesn't want to be bothered.

I feel restless and helpless. What should I do?

OK, what's up with the nasty little cartoon characters trying to sell things now? First there was the Lamisil fungus, now there's a mucus ball trying to sell cough syrup or something... does everything have to be slimy and disgusting to sell to the American public? The ad that I remember most, over all the years, as grabbing my attention was the Bayer Aspirin ad that was done in total silence. Why does everything have to be brighter, higher-pitched, louder, more outrageous???

What *is* the difference between Shiite and Sunni(sp?) Muslims? I used to know this...

People still in college and such: How do you see your future? Married, big/small house/apartment/trailer, pets, kids? Does your picture change if you get/drop a significant other, change you major, anything like that?

Note: I'm naturally blonde.
So, about 7/8 months ago I dyed my hair dark brown- Something like Natural Instincts Dark Chestnut. About 6 months ago, I dyed my still fairly dark hair reddish- NI Egyptian Plum. The EP was pretty much gone in two months. ... beginning of January, I dyed my hair Special Effects Fish Bowl(dark teal, basically), which is supposed to last up to six weeks, and it did (on the parts that had grown out blonde). I re-dyed it FB less than a week ago. Where my hair is still brown, the dye is refusing to stay. And, the brown shouldn't still be in- I know I can't go by the '28 washings' that it claims because I have much lighter hair, but I've dyed it that colour before and it had washed out within three months.

I guess what I want to know is if there's a way to speed up the process of the brown coming out other than bleaching/stripping it? I called Clairol about it and the tone of voice I got from the person I was talking to seemed to imply she thought I was fucking dumb for thinking it would ever wash out at all, even when I said that it had washed out before...

If your work deciedes to bring in uniforms, and you the shirt is short sleeved and for whatver you reason is that you are not comforatable and will not wear a short sleeved shirt, what should be done? Are you protected at all to object to showing parts of your body that you wish to be covered? Say you have lots of scars or a bad skin condition and you do not wish to expose it to the world, how should you go about objecting to this? What if your boss will not give you th option of wearing long sleeves?

I have a problem focusing on things.

As long as I can remember I've been this way - half-daydreaming. Lost in my thoughts and easily distracted. People can talk to me and I lose track of the conversation mid-sentence because I've already jumped two or three ideas ahead or lost the plot entirely (for instance, when I was pulled over by the police once, to this day I have no idea what the policeman was saying because I got distracted by pondering whether or not his ancestry was germanic....this is a serious problem). I lose track of what I'm saying sometimes. Studying is really hard. Any little thing sets me off, a vivid color, a shadow, a thought, and WHIFF - I'm fully occupied with the new thought or idea and I have no idea what's going on around me. This is an intermittent thing, too. Off and on but frequent enough that it happens more than it doesn't.

Anyway. I'm worried, because I'm planning to go to college in the fall and my focusing problem seems to be getting worse. I know I'm not overly stupid, or lazy, or inattentive, I just can't seem to keep myself centered on what is at hand.

What the hell is wrong with me?

The correct answer to the question I posted this morning is that certain character entity references will render a different character depending on their case. A winner is lierre!

Example:

É = É
é = é

Character entity references are the correct way to put these kinds of characters in a Web page.
