how loud (in decibels) is a nuclear explosion at ground zero? is there anything that is louder?
no real reason for asking, just being randomly curious.:P
Giant douche or turd sandwich?
If you were faced with the sad reality that you will probably be spending new year's eve at home by yourself what would you plan to do that evening (either to avoid wallowing in self-pity or to delve as deeply into self-pity mode as possible)?
Are banks in the US generally open on New Years eve?
What do you think of Hawksley Workman?
If you don't know who he is = download :)
What do you think?
By Rush Limbaugh:
"I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11. Well, I can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable.
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.
Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it's not enough. Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers.
We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well.
You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Make sense?
However, our own U.S. Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month. And most are now equal to being millionaires plus. They do not receive Social Security on retirement because they didn't have to pay into the system.
If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed them in harm's way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.
I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting."
alright, since restringing my ukulele was not a sexual euphemism...
and I got it tuned last night(midnight) to have it horribly, horribly off by morning(8)....
What are other possible reasons for it losing its tuning so badly? I know it's not going to stay in tune forever but it shouldnt be this far off in 8 hours...
I just got out a screwdriver and tightened the pegs, but if that doesn't work?
(since the ukulele is not a common instrument, i will point out that advice would work from just about anybody with a string instrument)
Do you ever start to hiccup when you smoke?
I've noticed that sometimes when I smoke, mostly when I'm by myself, I will hiccup my way through the cigarette. They start when I take the first drag and end after I'm done with the cigarette.
Does this happen to anyone else and, if so, do you know why it happens?
My husband and I are having a party because we're moving 12 hours away and we'd like to say bye to folks, and my brain is toast. Help me out and suggest some party foods (like, actual food items, not just chips and popcorn) for about 35 people that are inexpensive, easy to make, not messy to eat, not messy to make or clean up, and taste good. We were thinking beanie-weenies, but then you have to have bowls & spoons, and it's disater to clean out of the crockpot afterwards, so that got nixed. Rice crispie bars and a veggie tray are the only 2 things we can think of.
I know I've been posting a ton of questions lately...but just one more:
So I obtained a copy of Adobe Photoshop 7.0 from a friend of my mom's.
I've been trying desperately to teach myself how to make those wonderful icons, but to no avail.
Can anyone direct me to some sort of online dumbed-down tutorial?
Thanks in advance!

Anyone have ideas on how to approach your parents and tell them you need a psychologist or psychiatrist?
Something less blunt than, "Mom, Dad, I am suffering at my own hand because I have psychological problems. I need professional help, because, for the first time, I can't solve this problem on my own."
They won't accept that. Seriously. So, anything else?
I told my mother, "Mom, you know, I was doing some research on mixed headaches (the kind I have and that she's taken me to the doctor for). And I read that the headaches are very difficult to treat because they require a regular physician, a neurologist, a behavior therapist, and a psychologist."
Mind you, I don't act like I'm challenged. I seem normal, for the most part. It's all these internal problems. So I was letting her know what was going on.
She replied, "That's nice, dear. Go to sleep, now."
Thanks for the ideas.
What's your favorite movie soundtrack?
Can you shop online and pay with gift cards?
How long does it take you to answer emails?
From reading the email to hitting "send" is about 4 days for me. I just can never think of what to write, or how to word it, and I guess I want it to be PERFECT before I send it. I also procrastinate.
And this just when I am emailing good friends!
Is chai tea usually caffeinated? Because I didn't see anything in the ingredients that would portend caffeine, but I figured that if it WERE decaffeinated it would say so prominently. So.
Someone you are close to gives you a pricey gift for the holidays, then loses their job. Would you return the gift or keep it?
If one were to want to do a photo shoot inside a hospital, would that be considered a public place ad therefore available to be used in such a manner without permission? How about a train station or bus terminal?
If is not considered to be under the public photo laws, who would one contact to obtain permission at said locations?
Chocolate or vanilla? If neither, then what?
Do you have a cat?
If so, does he/she sleep in the same room as you?
If so, does your cat start to follow you around around "bedtime?"
