SNL [Oct. 24th, 2004|12:24 am]

[mood |confusedconfused]

Was anyone watching SNL a few minutes ago? What the hell happened? The SNL logo came on and just sat there for several seconds. They cut to a commercial, and then there was dead air for over 30 seconds, maybe even a minute. That's the most dead air I've ever seen on television.

When the show came back on, in the background I heard "It's on!" and Jude Law announced Ashlee Simpson. The band started playing and the vocals for the wrong song started (she must've been lip syncing), she did the Milli Vanilli dance, and walked off stage. WTF?

Edit: Here's a video of what happenedL http://www.collegehumor.com/news/ashlee_snl.wmv

My fiance' thinks I'm a bit crazy because I've already started making a list of gifts to purchase for family members as Christmas* presents.  (Mostly because I have a whole other family to budget in for this year, and I have a really crappy job.)

Has anyone else begun their holiday shopping yet?  How soon did you start?  Or, if you haven't started yet, when do you plan to?

*-Not trying to be insensitive to those of a non-Christian Belief.  Our families happen to be of Christian Faith, and therefore we celebrate Christmas.

On the same topic, what's your favorite magazine? Do you have a subscription, or do you buy them in a store?

Dizzy Spells [Oct. 24th, 2004|01:57 am]
The Question Club

thequestionclub

[arewar]
I get dizzy spells (I guess they are called) on occassion. They've occured much more recently in the past couple of years than when I was younger. (I'm barely 20 now.)

They always happen when I stand up, especially when I've been sitting down for long periods of time watching TV, reading, etc. My vision gets blurry, blacks out, and then returns with pretty little spots before correcting. All of it happens in about 5 seconds.

I'm very healthy, and rarely get sick except in flu season. I haven't thought to mention them to a doctor because they don't really bother me too much, so I never think about it during a checkup.

What could be the cause? Is it be just a rush of blood circulation?

Do these lyrics sound familiar to anyone? It was out a few years ago. It goes something like "When you are with me, I'm free, I'm reckless, I'm me...(something something) like paradise" The band is sorta like Matchbox Twenty -but I'm pretty sure it's not them. Does anyone know the name of the song and band who made it?

Why do people bite their nails and/or cuticles?

And don't answer "because of stress"...I want to know why nail-biting in specific is such a common thing, and WHY it is a stress response for so many people.

Not-so-random Nausea? [Oct. 24th, 2004|03:45 am]

[music |Delerium - Nature's Kingdom]

Any ideas?

This is the situation. And for those who may suggest it, I'm not pregnant, unless it's some sort of immaculate conception.

For the past few months, whenever I'm on a bus (whether it is a local city bus, or sometimes even an intercity Greyhound), I get really nauseous if I'm on it for more than ten minutes. This doesn't happen *all* the time, but say, out of an average of 12 city bus rides I'll take in a week, it would happen around seven or eight of them. Doesn't seem to be specific to any single bus route, or time of day. Most of the time it'll end as soon as I step off the bus, though there have been a few occasions lately where it gets worse for a few minutes, and then only get better about ten minutes later. This bus nausea is new in the past few months - I've been taking buses for years without problems. I get motion sickness if I try to read in cars or buses, so I don't do that, but this brings itself on without me reading or anything.

As for the second one - any time I'm up past 3am or so, I seem to get a bout of nausea between 3am and 5am. Doesn't last long, but enough to be irritating and make me feel like I'm going to throw up. Other than bus rides, it doesn't appear randomly at any other time of day. And happens during this 3am-5am time window regardless of whether I got up at 7am or noon that day.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

1) should men even have an opinion on the issue of abortion? if people ask me if i am pro-life or pro-choice i simply say "i do not have a vagina, sir / ma'am"
and
2) why is the SOA still open and functioning??

This is a question to those 80s kids or older. Remember those old Peechee (sp) folders we used to bring to school? They were orangish and had pictures of sports people on them? One one side, there was a tennis player ready to swat a serve, then a linebacker tackling a running back (football), and at the bottom, 3 guys running in a relay race. On the other side, at the top, there was a batter at the plate (baseball), then some basketball guys playing ball, but I can't for the life of me remember what was at the bottom of that side. Do you guys remember?

I've seen a lot of icons made by LJers that have those tiny fonts with a black border around them. Examples:

Is there a special font needed to do that, or some option in Photoshop I just haven't found yet? Or maybe it's just something stupidly simple that I've overlooked...

Ok, I need help in making a choice. I can either play with my newly formed band in our school's battle of the bands, or I can go on a mystery mission weekend trip with my youth group. I was planning to do both, but then the date for the mission trip was changed. I know that I probably should go on the mission trip, but I really had my heart set on our band playing. The other members of the band aren't likely to be too bummed if they can't do it, because it was mostly my idea to sign up for the battle of the bands. I don't know...can anybody help me?

My father bought a used Compaq S200 scanner. I am sad because:
1. He bought it for $1.
2. He didn't have the CD. (I was able to download that)
3. He didn't have the adapter.
4. The scanner doesn't have the voltage on it.
5. Compaq was bought by HP.
6. HP's site couldn't help me.
7. Help me figure out the volt/adapter type, please? Or where to get it?

I'm looking for things along the lines of the fountain of youth, things that you'd search for and the answer could possibly found in a book somewhere. The only things that I can think of at the moment are, as I said, the fountain of youth and the philosophers stone.

Thanks for the help!

So a dear friend and I are on a Matthew Lillard movie kick lately. Last night, we made the ghastly mistake of renting She's All That, which you should never see for any reason. "Oh my God," moaned my friend. "This is what the rest of the world thinks the States are like!"

So here's my question: Can anyone explain to me the purpose of the unnecessarily choreographed dance number at the prom? Seriously. Why? Had the rest of the movie had any wit or irony going for it, I could have gone along. But it was one fairly groovy scene in an otherwise entirely mediocre teen comedy.

What kind of home audio system do you have (if you have one)? If you don't like what you have, what would you rather get?
In general, what brands do you trust when it comes to stereo equipment?

My 7-disc Aiwa is officially dead and I need a replacement. I really like Aiwa. I kinda like Sony but I hate top-loading CD players and it seems like those are the first things to break down.
