LJ Etiquette

Say you happen to find someone's lj through a link on a shared community, or through similar interests. The journal both interesting and well thought out, and you come back every now and then to see if there are more entries.

Is it okay to friend someone if you like reading their lj, but are perfect strangers otherwise? Or is it better to just read the entries in peace, acting as a lurker of sorts?

(This makes me sound like a crazy online stalker. ...Really, I'm not.)

"3) Cultural Analyzation Question: What is it with American teenagers being such Japan-o-philes? To define that word, think of someone who just loves Japan TOO much. You've heard of them, you've seen them...A large majority of you reading this ARE them. To finish; STAY OUT!! Love Thailand instead; they have stuff too."

Why whould so many people seem to love Japan?

angry email

My mom sent me this email today. Let me say that I do not agree with it in the slightest! I can't believe her attitude. She is "extremely religious," and I can't belive my own mother is this cruel.

So now the question is, how do I tell her how angry this made me and how upset I am that she could be so close minded?

This may sound harsh, but why are the Post Office and other delivery services closed on Sundays? Plenty of other people go to work on Sunday, the world keeps on turning- why do they get that day off?

Is there a community on LJ for car problems? My '87 Caprice is making a rattling noise when I accelerate. It's a scary, "is my car going to fall apart while I'm driving it?" kind of noise. Eep. My brother's advice on the phone was get the oil changed, but not at 5:30 on a Sunday. Fuckin' swell...

I'm just a little worried here...

Does anyone here know anybody who is schizoid? If you do, could you please tell me how this person acted (behaviourally)? Did they act withdrawn, cold, or did they seem normal? etcetcetc. Whatever you can tell me about them.

Thanks.

If you were a reasonably successful musician - successful as in, big fanbase, a few albums out, doing concerts, etcetera - would you listen to your own music at home, or would you consider it to be a bit too embarassing and or narcissistic?

Common knowledge realizations

Throughout your lifetime, when have you had realizations that seemingly everyone else you know had had long, loooong before?

The kind where you have a reaction (either mentally or vocally) of, “Oh. OH!”

Here are two of mine.

Until I was about 15 or 16, I didn’t realize people actually had hamburgers and such for dinner. My sister and I went to the house of some friends and there were hamburgers and fries for everyone to eat. I blame this on my parents being slightly food snobbish. ;-)

Earlier this year I was in Baltimore and spent a lot of time on the road. (Flew there with a friend and was in another friend’s car for a while.) I noticed something strange about the trees alongside the highway, but couldn’t put my finger on it. Being a born and bred Californian, I realized only when I got home and looked around outside the Sacramento airport, that it was because I had never seen completely bare, leafless trees before.

OK, now, share yours. ;-)
