I just recieved a spamish e-mail, to a private account that I don't use for anything other then communicating with friends, and they both (same e-mail sent twice) contained a virus. I have a very good virus program and that caught them and got rid of it, but it's annoyed me enough that I want to try and hunt this guy down.
The e-mail that was used was one for a comic for a paper in the US, as it was his work e-mail and it was rediculously simple to track it back to him, I'm going to lay dollars to doughnuts that he didn't do it. I've never heard of him, or his paper, and as he's an older gentleman, I'm guessing that there is nothing in it for him.
But the e-mail also came with a couple of different ip addresses attached. Now they might not go anywhere, or they might, I have no way of knowing. Hell, I don't even know what I'm going to do if and when I find anything out.
My question, after all of the long windedness, is how would one go about tracing an ip address. I'm guessing that this person is in the US, so I'm looking for something most likely on continental North America. But I've tried ARIN and I've tried a few other things and nothing has come back.
If anyone could make a couple of suggestions, or give me a description of something else to put into ARIN to search that (I haven't used the site in a while and I'm not entirely sure that I'm doing it right) I would be very happy.
Thanks for the help in advance!
