The Question Club
My roommate and I have been searching for apartments. We live in Texas.
We were approved for an apartment but they did not have any units available for the time we needed to move in for January. We left a floating depoit, to be sure we had forst dibs on something that came available.
Well, roomie and I got jittery, decided we didn't want to wait so close to our move time without having a sure place to go so we went to one of the company's sister properties. they DID have a unit for our required moving date so we went through the process of securing that department. The very next day, I contacted the first complex and informed them we woud not need to lease from them as we found an available unit at their sister property.
Now the first apartment says the 150 dollar deposit I made is not refundable.
I could understand if they actually had a unit for us and we backed out. But they had no availability, we were on a waiting list and they had already cashed the check.
I consulted whre we are moving, under the same company and they do refund floating deposits.
Is there something fishy here about this?
