Drinking question

I've heard people say something about drinking alone (I guess often) is a sign of alcoholism or something, but what if you're online talking to other people who are drinking? Is that alone, or is it sort of social?

Dose anyone here know or tell me where I can get a recipy for short cust pastry?
The cook books that I have don't have one for pastry.
If It makes a difference It's for a stake and ale pie.

children's parties

I should know this, since I am a parent, but sadly, I don't.

What do you do with a handful of 5 year olds at a birthday party? My daughter wants a party, so we are having her a first one with other kids, and I'm wondering what to do with them all.

(don't say tie them in a closet, i've considered it already.)

birthday party stuffage

I mentioned this in my journal...

I want to do something for my eighteenth birthday (as of tomorrow, it's a month away) but I have NO idea what to do. Or who to invite if I do something, 'cause I'm friendly with lots of different people. 'Cause in my delusional dreams, I kick everyone out of the house, invite some of the people who are vaguely nice to me, and we do stuff that happens at house parties in the movies. But my house isn't that big, and chances are, if I throw a party, there'd be this strange mesh of people who'd be like, "Why the hell are you inviting me?", and it'd be a disaster, because my social situation skills are like, pitiful. But I want to do SOMETHING. I haven't had a birthday party since I was thirteen! And I didn't have a "sweet sixteen" so I owe myself a teenage party of [slight] debauchery.

So, the question is, what should I do for the party? I want to have an 80s themed party or soemthing so it could be fun, but I have no real clue of what to do...

Every time Massachusetts is mentioned in a book, movie or TV show it's mentioned that it's a commonwealth and not a state. Seriously, every single time! Even when it's not relevant to the story.

I just saw "Mystic River"... early in the movie there's the obligatory commonwealth reference. A later scene takes place in a police station. The logo posted on the chief's lectern says Massachusetts State Police. The same thing shows up later... can't remember where I saw it. Maybe on the side of a police car.

Anyway, is that an oversight by the set people? Or is it referred to by both terms?

Song question:

In Sarah McLachlan's Adia, who is Adia? What's it supposed to be about? Is it a particular symbolic character, someone Sarah knows, or just a name that sounded good with her song?

I want a downloadable, Mac-friendly, free (or cheap) simple image editing program for things like resizing and adding borders. Small, easy things.

Does such a program exist? (and if so . . . where?)
