Octavia Butler Fans

If you like Octavia Butler, I need a little advice. I LOVE her Parable books, and am looking for a similar author that writes in this genre, i.e., not-so distant future cyber punk female main character kinda genre. Any suggestions?

I have a large, hairy growth

On my nether regions. I'm really starting to worry about it. It's starting to throb, and it changes color every couple of hours. I'm either the victim of an alien implant or some exotic plant in my neighborhood has given me an as yet unnamed disease.

On weightloss

I'm dieting again, for multiple reasons, including reducing my sugar level, and to feel and (though I hate to admit it) look better. My current strategy is calorie counting/watching, and I've thrown a daily, half-hour walk into my regimen. I'm hoping I'll get some results this time through.

So my question is this: anyone here have a weight-loss success story to share? How'd you do it? Any tips for a college-age dieter such as myself?

I am curious - a friend and I were talking about this earlier.

When I was in class (long ago and far away) we were reading Les Miserables and I was the only person in my class who did not see the injustice of his sentencing. Do you think Jean Val Jean was unjustly punished?

What do you think about animated movies that have bloopers? Not like when the voice actors mess up, but like in Bugs Life and Monsters Inc where they actually have the animated characters messing up, so you KNOW they aren't real bloopers.

Just wondering.
