The Unbearable Lightness of Being: Question!

I've just finished reading Milan Kundera's The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and I don't quite understand what happened, though the novel is beautiful...do Tereza and Tomas die or not? It appears that they do indeed die together, in a car crash, but how is it that, at the end of the book, they go to the hotel and dance and stay the night?

I feel like I'm missing some major themes in this book...I see this as a very sweet love story, but there's something perverse behind it too. Anyone care to enlighten me?
