TQC, choose my own carpet adventure

I moved into a new apartment in June and prior to my arrival the landlord didn't replace or (as far as I can tell) shampoo the carpet, which was new only a year before - previous tenants were pretty tidy but there are little stains in the entryway. The idea of a year's dust accumulated is bugging me, and I'd like to get it cleaned somehow. Tell me about YOUR carpet and decide my fate.
