Peel potatoes and chop into inch squares
Boil until tender
Add butter and mash until smooth
Add salt, and then lots of cracked pepper
Add splashes of milk and mix through with a fork until right consistency
Sometimes I'll add a dollop of sour cream or fresh parsley if I'm feeling ~hardcore
I'm very particular about some things with my mashed spuds. For instance I don't care about the brand of potatoes, but they must be brushed and not washed for better flavour. I also can't make good mashed potatoes with just any old masher - it has to be the orange-handled one that's older than my mother. I can't seem to mash as well without it. I also like to have a special fork to do the mixing. However since my housemate moved in my special fork has gone suspiciously missing, so I'm HAVING TO MAKE DO.
