What do you do to take your mind of off things when something bad/sad has happened or you're in the waiting limbo?

My mom called an hour and a half ago to say my grandpa was in the ICU with pulmonary aspiration (literally having food go down the 'wrong way') and that he would probably be okay, but his doctor wasn't there yet and she would call me later. I don't know when later is and I live over three hours from the rest of my family, so I'm here by myself, watching netflix and checking my phone for missed calls every few minutes. My grandpa has a horrible history of severe GERD so these problems aren't too uncommon for him, but he's now 89, so.
