I've always vaguely been intrigued by the idea of making my own clothes, and I recently figured out how to turn a dude's tshirt into a woman's shirt, and I just found a dress pattern I want to make super badly.

However, my sewing machine is rather old, and I'm considering upgrading. The machine I have is a Singer 237 that my mom bought used in the early seventies. In the late eighties, early nineties, she got it fixed up, and it still works pretty well, but it's super simple. Can just do a straight stitch and zigzag, that's it.

Do you have any recommendations for what types of sewing machines I should be looking at? Nothing super complicated, but could handle most patterns. There's a local sewing/vacuum store I might go check out today, see what they think.
