Becoming a Psychiatrist?

What does it take to become a psychiatrist?

Do you absolutely need to get straight A's in order to get accepted to medical school?

I am most definitely majoring in psychology, and if psychiatry seems out of my reach I will definitely get my masters. Is it better off that I give up on my ultimate dream of becoming a psychiatrist because I am not great at math or sciences? Any advice and insight is much appreciated. Thank you!

EDIT: I myself struggle with psychiatric disorders, and have been on various medications, and still on many psychotropics. Going through what I have in life from when I was very young till now makes me a very empathetic and compassionate person. I sincerely want to help those who have gone through the things I have, and more. I understand even with a degree in social work, I can still do counseling, but no offense to anyone who make be a social worker, I just do not see them as qualified enough to truly help those who are severely ill (basically this going off of my experiences with them). That might be ignorant of me to generalize, but maybe I have a lot to learn. My medications, I know have saved my life time and time again. I don't believe they are for everyone, but if someone is severely ill, I can see the right time for them to be used. Whatever route, if psychiatry is not for me, I know psychology is. I need to apply, and discipline myself more.

No matter what I want to be a counselor.
