Do you think it is inappropriate for a professor of an ordinary, run-of-the-mill subject (not something like Renaissance Cuisine or whatever) to habitually tell students that their degrees are meaningless and they have no hope for a future in that same subject?


EDIT: To clarify, this is not in a classroom setting, this is not a professor kindly cautioning students on how difficult it might be to procure a job in their field (which is a relatively small problem for this particular field). This is a professor pulling different students aside in the hallway or other casual locations and telling them harshly that their career choice has absolutely no prospects and they will amount to nothing. Half of these students are not enrolled in any of her classes, some have never been in her classes. I've had at least a dozen peers confide in me about this professor in this semester alone.
