I'm replacing all of the fire alarms in my sister's house tomorrow. Two of the alarms are going to be recordable, meaning you can replace the usual "alarm" sound with a person's voice, which are for my 4-year-old-nephew.

What should we record for the alarm to wake him up if they go off?

Also, what's better: battery-operated (with 10-year batteries) or hard-wired fire alarms?

DK/DC: when's the last time you tested your alarms & changed the batteries? If your answer is more than one year, go do it right now!
