An earlier question got me wondering: How easily could you put together a top ten list of your favorite movies?

I can rattle off my top three without any effort. After that, I have to think about it and it is highly subject to change, both in content and order.

Top 5 easily. Top 10 requires more thought.

I was talking about something similar with my ce recently. Top 5 video games, overall and on specific systems. It was hard!

I find the favorite movie question difficult, even when it's Top 3/5/10. There are my favorite movies that I think are perfectly crafted, profound, and really spoke to me . . . but they're often dark or sad or overwhelming and not necessarily something I'm always in the mood to watch. On the other hand, there are my favorite movies that I love watching over and over again and never get tired of, and no matter what, if it's on, I'm watching it-- a lot of comedies and nostalgic kids' movies. I feel like I need at least two separate lists.

I'm a movie buff AND I suck at picking favorites, so this would be impossible for me. I could give a list of ten OF my favorites, but I couldn't put them in order and I could never pick a number one.

Well, let's see. Rules Of The Game, Head, Rock & Roll High School, 2001, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, Apuros De Dos Gallos, 8 1/2, Juliet of the Spirits, Chinese Ghost Story, My Neighbor Totoro -- well, I did have to stand up and walk across the room to get something, but I drilled this list out in about two minutes.

top 10 is easier for me than say, top 5 because there are more tied for the 5th spot. but yeah, when I get to the last ones, it's more subject to change.
pretty much always there -

It's a Wonderful Life
Twelve Angry Men
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
To Kill a Mockingbird
What's Up, Doc?
Eight Men Out
Bull Durham
Raising Arizona

and then the others are usually between movies like Frenzy, Blood Simple, The Usual Suspects, Shawshank Redemption, and Blade Runner.

That is pretty tricky. I could probably list my top five rather easily, but with top ten I would have to think and muse and consider.

I'm not a big movie fan, I could probably do 3 or 5 but 10 would be difficult.

10 is pretty easy for me:

Breakfast At Tiffany's
How To Marry A Millionaire
Small Town Girl
The Birds (Alfred Hitchcock)
Love & War
Snow Cake
Finding Nemo
Untamed Heart
Mystic Pizza
Charlie St. Cloud

Idk. After maybe the first 7, I'd just want to keep adding movies.

I could maybe pick a few that would make it into the top ten, but not in any kind of order, and I probably couldn't choose so many as ten. It doesn't help that I'm not a huge movie buff, but even then I find it really hard to pick favourites of anything like that (books, movies, music etc.) because they can differ so widely in genre and they can mean different things to you at different times. And I often find it hard to express why I like or dislike something.

not easily at all. id have a bunch id be sure of in the top ten, and then a handful id probably agonize over trying to decide if it was really my 8th favorite movie, or if its really this other one.
and it would definitely change in both content and in order.

okay, i think* ive got my top ten, but i cant commit them to being in order. these are mostly in order, but subject to change.

Dr. Strangelove
24 Hour Party People
The Life Aquatic
American Graffiti
Back to the Future
The Royal Tenenbaums
Dazed & Confused
Detroit Rock City
Airplane!
Spaceballs

Ulp! I made a top ten list up there with no Wes Anderson films on it .. can I change my answer?

i hope so! i was thinking of changing some of my answers....

also, i felt sort of ~hipster~ for having 2 of his films in my top 10. but idgaf, those two are both so good, especially the life aquatic! not just a good movie but it has such amazing music.

which wes anderson film(s) do you want to amend your list with?

It's OK, I had two Fellini films in my list.

Probably "Tenebaums". It sorta saved my life once .. I was feeling very depressed one night, and I was alone, and was starting to feel suicidal. Then I remembered that I'd found a VHS copy of the film in the street earlier in the week, and so I put it on and watched it, and then felt a little better.

I can ramble off something like 10-15 movies I'd probably shape into a list like that, but it wouldn't be in order and that would be the difficult part. I don't have one favorite movie. I have something more like five.

Top three are easy. Armageddon, Sliding Doors, Keeping the Faith.
Top five are easy. Add Shakespeare in Love and Stigmata.
Top ten are still easy. Add Dangerous Liasons (the Glenn Close/John Malkovich version), Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, Real Steel, Pacific Rim, and Robin Hood: Men In Tights.

Note, I never said I have great taste in movies. :) Just that these are my top ten, and I didn't have any trouble coming up with them.

Wall-E
The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Muppets Christmas Carol
Insidious
Frozen

Despite 'liking movies' as an activity, I really don't remember many of them or even watch many. There are some comfort picks I could go (all very embarrassing), but I could never put a Top 10 list out there.

Favorites of any kind are my Achilles.

I can't choose. I hate choosing favorites. Especially things like bands. I listen to probably 5000 different bands how could I possibly name a top 10?

Same with movies. I watch a wide variety of stuff, so like there's some favorites of action, horror, comedy, drama, thought-provoking, biopics... yeah a top 10 would be extremely difficult.

I could probably do top 5 with no question. After that I think would be more difficult/lots of second-guessing and waffling between several for my last few.

Fairly easy. If it's an 'over all' type thing. Not just picking drama or comedy or something :)

Sense and Sensibility
Pineapple Express
Stand By Me
King Arthur
Love Actually
Dances with Wolves
Last of the Mohicans
Pitch Perfect
Bridesmaids
Millions

Not easily. I could do my top 5, but yeah, after that it's hard. It's more because I don't have a lot of movies that I love enough to call a favorite, so top 10 for me would be like half movies I love and half movies I just really like.

1. Fargo
2. Drive
3. Donnie Darko
4. Amadeus
5. Dead Poets Society
6. The Truman Show
7. Dumb and Dumber
8. Nowhere
9. Lars and the Real Girl
10. Groundhog Day

That took me like two minutes. Haha.
Then again, I'm a film buff/movie reviewer, so I think about this a lot.
