Band photography

I'm helping a friend brainstorm ideas for band photography. Want to play along?

They have a noisy melodic punk-pop thing going on, with four members in the band. We're probably looking for an indoor setting. I've been having a lot of fun looking up advice (including what to avoid) on the internet, and have had a few ideas myself, but the more ideas, the merrier!

Here are a couple of ideas that I had, which might be total crap, but that's part of the brainstorming process.

We have access to a local theater, which you can see photos of here. I like the fact that it's a performance space for theater more than music, but still a performance space, and iconographic in our town. It is also a somewhat neutral canvas, which would be appropriate for a shoot where the focus was on the action more than the setting. One thought I had was to have the band dressed in fairly normal clothes, but have some random people in the audience, either as a group, or just one or two here and there, dressed in wild costumey types of things (top hats, animal masks, tiaras, fantastical makeup, etc.) The camera's focus would be on the band, with the strange audience providing texture and color in the background.

I also like the idea of doing some kind of composite image, with each band member being photographed individually, then letterboxed into a cohesive piece. It could be done in any sort of setting. It might be funny to do all the cliche photoshoot things: one person against a brick wall, one on the train tracks, etc. For this, I see the shots all straight on, with no real posing, just standing there, arms at the sides.
