During the 1940's, 1950's there was a black/African American big band singer who would was known for singing something like 'yadi yadi yadi ya' to which the rest of the band would sing back 'yadi ye di ye di ye'- if you've ever seen the The Notebook, I'm pretty sure that type of music is in the scene when James Marsden's character proposes at the night club. It was a distinct style of singing. I was told it was made famous by a black American singer but for the life of me, I can't remember who or what it's called.
TQC, What am I thinking of? Who sang that kind of music and what's the term for it called?
It's Cab Calloway, thanks noodledays. I've now happily listening to it continuously on youtube.
New question: What's been your latest musical discovery or re-discovery? Mine is (obviously) Cab Calloway.
