(because i'm gay, which i think is ridiculous)
I've never given blood. I wouldn't know where to go.
Are you American? Do you have an organ and tissue donor place near you?
i cant and never will mwhahah
I can't. I pass out even when I get a tiny bit of blood taken. My mom is really big into blood donation though and runs the blood drives for her postal facility! :)
I never have. When I was in high school/college I was on medication that wouldn't allow it, and now I just don't see/hear about opportunities to do so anymore.
I've never given blood because I have this weird fear of seeing blood in viles or plastic tubes....the thought of it makes me lightheaded. It's really weird. I have to psyche myself out whenever I have to get bloodwork done.
One of my best friends is like that. When we go to the movies, she looks down when blood things happen on screen and I tell her when it's OK to look up again. Once she passed out after she cut herself and it bled--I mean just from looking at it, it wasn't a bad cut. It's some legit physiological thing, one that I'm glad I don't have to deal with myself.
32, I did it a couple weeks ago! Apparently I have great veins and a pint of blood came out in 6 minutes. I found something I'm good at! :D
Yay for you!
I was old...I was like 35 or something. My family does NOT give blood but my husband always did and I felt like an old miser, hanging onto my blood like that.
15 or 16, they did a blood drive at school. For a few years after that I donated regularly and started donating platelets. My dad regularly donated before he died so I wanted to continue that. Unfortunately I got sick and am now on meds that prevent me from donating.
18 or 19. Don't remember which. I've donate a handful of times.
First and only time was when I was 18. I almost couldn't bc apparently I have slight anemia.
I always try to because my college has a blood donation competition with our rival school, but I guess I never weigh enough to be allowed to donate
I don't, I have terrible veins for needles. So I volunteer at my local hospital instead.
I believe I was 17 because I think that's the required age here. I've given blood to Canadian Blood Services... 22 times? And once in Maine.
I've been anemic since 3rd grade so never :-(
I'd like to, but I lived in Europe during the 80s in my early childhood and apparently they think I might be a mad cow. Moo.
21 it was when my mother was undergoing chemo for breast cancer. They announced they needed donors while I was at the hospital and I decided it was the least I could do.
I feel like I was required to be 18 before I could donate? Or have the regulations changed? I started donating as soon as I was old enough at school blood drives. Then I moved to mad cow land and I haven't been able to donate since.
Then I nearly passed out in my English Lit class. Freaked the teacher out big-time. XD
Nobody else thinks it's weird that your husband decided it was time for your son to give blood? I've given blood a few times despite a needle phobia (I have to lie down or I pass out), I'm not anti-giving blood, but it seems (to me) like a decision that should be made by the individual and not for an individual by someone else...
I was starting to feel like I was the only one who noticed that!
I can't. The family history of diabetes and the pre-diabetic label I've had since birth (thanks Dad!) makes them say "no, thanks".
I never have. I self harmed a lot during my younger years and was too afraid they would see my scars. I am better now and would like to try but am not sure of any rules surrounding that kind of thing...
i'm a past self harmer also. i was turned away at one point because of my scars because i didn't know if it had been a year or more since i last self harmed. where i'm from (Victoria, Australia) they treated it like a tatoo. they did ask me questions about it, so that can be a little awkward i guess, to make sure that i hadn't shared the blade with anyone else, where i had gotten the medical treatment etc etc. but i'm fine to donate, and do fairly frequently, they just ask me how long its been now. donating blood is one of the things that motervated me to really really work on the issue, and helps me if i get a bit yuck in the head again (i dont want to hurt other people, and i want to be able to donate blood, so those things stop me). so yeah! i'm allowed to, maybe just give the blood center a call, and ask about what the restrictions are in your area while you make an appointment. also, congrats on getting better :).
Never given either. I was always underweight, though I might weigh enough now.
17 in high school because that's the requirement here. I've given maybe two or three times.
